Default Becoming a Certified Bookkeeper

Hi All,

I am the 'Company Accountant' as our Accountant likes to call me
I have business qualifications but and am self taught in Sage Accounts/Payroll and VT Transaction and I'm starting to teach myself about MYOB Accounting/Payroll.
When i'm looking at jobs they want trade quals, automatic thought was 'Oh Heck' then I spoke to my delightful Accountant and he informed me I can become a Certified Bookkeeper through the Institute of Chartered Bookkeepers due to my experience!!!! Automatic thought then was 'Yeee Ha' You need to sit an exam (at home) have an Accountant and another proffessional person or if you are lucky 2 Accountants who can prove your experience, your CV, proof of identity and a cheque for £45.
I can't be the only person in this situation and if I can help anyone in the same boat as me then brill we are after all looking to achieve the same goal Emigration to New Zealand
Sorry if I have waffled on

Angela

hi Angela, sounds like a brilliant way of formalising your skills & experience, if you're already doing the job then you deserve to be able to get a 'certificate'! for a relatively small outlay.
So good on ya ....you go for it!

Hi Angela,

I'm a charted accountant, and would like to add if you can pick up some quals along the way then it is well worth it. At all levels there are normally roles looking for suitable candidates. Also, with bookkeeping its a great way to pick up parttime work(during say school hours), as there are plenty of small businesses in NZ that cannot afford a fulltime accounts person.

And probably easiest to get quals in UK and then convert rather than do it in NZ. But check out NZICA for more details.
