Glad you found your answer. We flew with China Airlines (great experience) and they have a similar 30kg weight limit. We took 3 lots of hold luggage (2 suitcases and a backpack) and the weight limit per person was added together for both of us. Airlines often add the weight limit total together for the entire party. The only thing i would add is that each piece of luggage could not exceed 32kg for manual handling reasons for airport staff.

Also most carriers let you take one hand luggage and an additional personal item like a handbag or a laptop bag. This was useful as my laptop is very heavy as it's a gaming laptop and didn't count against any weight limits.
