Same here in ChCh - bro in law was gonna buy but is now holding off for 6 months in anticipation of a drop in the market of 2 or 3%. The papers, people in the street and the general figures from the property markets say a price drop is happening right now. The only people saying otherwise are vendors and estate agents.

Even though we have prob bought ourselves at the height last October, it can only be a good thing for NZ as a whole....?

My father (who has made his fortune buying, doing up and selling property) is fond of quoting "a house is only worth what someone will pay for it".

There's been a lot of overinflated values lately and it's good to see a little more sense in the market

The cost of change is cheaper in this market and if you're selling for a lower price than a year ago you'll also be buying for a cheaper price than a year ago We got a flyer from Barfoots the other day - they're offering over $1,000 worth of free marketing if you list with them for 60 days. So long as you could negotiate their commission too, that sounds like a good deal.
