Sorry you didnt get the job Judy. I always see every interview as good practise for the next one... they are never a waste of time even if you dont get the job. I hope something comes up for you.... Im in the same boat at the moment jobwise.... I'm going to have to go out to work but not sure what I want to do and how my toddler will cope in Daycare for the first time.

Hi SarahB - just wanted to give you some moral support re: toddlers in day care - my two used to go in the UK and both started as babies, so didn't know any different by the time they realised that they were being left, so it's been tough going through the transition here - my son (nearly 4) is going 3 days per week and my daughter (17mths) is going 1 day a week - I'm not working yet but will be and wanted to be sure that they are fully settled before then. They both find it really tough when I leave them, and it breaks my heart to hear them cry but within minutes of me going they are both happily playing and are getting lots from the social contact and exposure to NZ life, child style. It's a real buzz when I go to pick them up at the end of the day and they come running over, so pleased to see me, but equally it's great to hear what they've been up to etc etc.
Have you identified a child care provider yet - that's one of the hardest bits, but trust your gut instinct, you will know what feels right for your child and take full advantage of the settling in sessions.
Good luck
Vicki

Hey Thanks Vicki. I just dont know what to do for the best. Our son has always only had either me or his dad looking after him. Hes quite a sensitive little chap and is small for his age too. In the UK I worked part time but in the evenings and weekends. I was so tired after working until midnight that I really dont want to go down that route again. We need a second income of some kind coming in now as we are not managing very well here on one wage.... so I dont feel I have a choice really. We dont have anyone here who can look after him for us even for just a short time which is awkward sometimes. There is a Daycare centre near where my partner works and also one in Beachlands so I will have to check them out and see if I like them....and if Short Stuff likes them too. I keep too-ing and fro-ing about going back to work....its awful to think that he might be really upset if I go away all day.... hes so tiny that even at PlayGroup I have to watch him all the time as he gets "picked-on" by the older/bigger kids there.

I have been tempted to apply to Air New Zealand like Judy did, as Ive just worked for Thomas Cook for the last few years and the last year was part time in the Call Centre.... trouble is I didnt like the call centre mentality very much.... any ideas if Call Centres have such a bad reputation here, like they do in the UK?

Cheers, SarahB
