Default Accomodation Dilemma ????

Hi all

Can anyone help use please, where not sure which route to go down re accommodation when we arrive?

Were coming on a visitors visa and going to get a job once where there (fingers crossed) as we do not have enough points without a job offer.

What would you recommend for accommodation when we arrive. We want to try to avoid the import duty, so if we time it right we can have a work permit by the time our container arrives. Is it best to stay in a holiday let (bit expensive by the look of it though), go straight in and rent somewhere or stay in a motel?
Can anyone advise please? Thanks

Hi,we stayed in a holiday let(and still are 14 months later)we negotiated the rent with them and managed to get the rent reduced by half ,because we comitted to a longer period of time..even if you comitt to a couple of months it gives you room for negotiation on the rent..its guaranteed money in there hands and you will probably find they will jump at this chance...hope this helps...Jacky

Hi Jacky

Thanks for the swift reply
I think a holiday rental sounds the best option if we can get a good deal. With the economy as it is at the moment, your probably right about them doing a good deal to get some rental income.

Time to scan net for holiday lets if feel.

Thanks very much

Jackie

Where are you intending to stay North or South. Depending on that there are some great rental bargains to be had just now as investors are having to rent out properties cheaply due to the state of the interest rates. You could get a better deal via a landlord seeing as the summer is fast approaching and holiday lets will be in demand. I just checked my PM's and you were asking about Rolleston. There are some great houses out there for rent under $400 for 4 beds - you may be able to negotiate the rental period on an ad hoc basis. You need to look under www.trademe.co.nz then got to Real Estate, Rent, Canterbury and then Selwyn district for Rolleston as it is just outside the christchurch city boundary. If you go to Christchurch City I can recommend Burwood/ Parklands/ Redwood/Tumara Park areas as that is where we rented for 12 months and it was great. Hope that helps.
