Which Slow Cooker?
is best in NZ?
Anyone got one? Recommendations? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Or.
Can anybody tell me whether I can use the UK one here? Would it be okay or not okay (in the long run)? If that works fine without problems, I'd buy one from the U.K. (along with Jacob Jensen T5 Corded Telephone )
many Thanks in advance.

Re: Which Slow Cooker?
Aren't slow cookers all the same? The power is exactly the same here 240V 50Hz so any slow cooker would work fine if you changed the plug. My 18 year old one from the UK works fine here.
UK phones work fine here too (but not all fax machines). What's so special about the Jacob Jensen T5 Corded Telephone???

a UK one should be fine if you change the plug and get it fitted nicely - probably best not to leave it in the appliance "garage" whilst its running - along with the toaster as the doors on those things sometimes push the toaster lever down and hold it "there" - oopss......
There must be some decent local varieties though?
We had a very nice twice cooked lamb casserole at the weeked but MrsL cheated using a Woolworth's sachet, even the kids ate it! Yummy

£80 for a corded phone - wow, that really is paying for image! Be aware that the caller ID function probably won't work in NZ
We have a Breville oval-shaped slow cooker and it seems to do a good job. Good for lamb shanks, being that shape

Re: Which Slow Cooker?
Thanks everybody.
and Ian, Thankyou.
I got my slow cooker 2 weeks ago.......RONSON 3 Liter at The WAREHOUSE .....I wrote this thread let me see... August 3 I've done loads of research on it for 4 days in a row before purchasing, and then decided. It was a hard job to find out "real" product reviews as you need to pay money to get to read them. they are bad, aren't they? that's why it was difficult even so I could get some decent information after a few days hard work. anyway I found two best slow cookers.
Sunbeam is pretty reliable however they do not make a smaller size (3.5 L) any more so I couldn't get that as I need a small(est ish) size for just myself.
RONSON is very good too. (surprised lots of people love this ?) I've heard its only well known to older people due to the company had stopped making a slow cooker for a long long time. . and someone said it's no longer available (though many people seeking for it) however. Incidentally when I pop into the Warehouse,, I found the Ronson 3 L. so I got it with no doubt. A staff said they only have been dealing with Ronson products just for 3 months or so. It's pretty new.
my first try outs of this slow cooker - for the first time I cooked chicken - however it never boils? ? ? though I set on on high for 7 hours?? at the end the meat was soft and mush ! ... It does a job that you want anyhow........so that's fine then.
In fact, I was looking for Morphy Richard's one - apparently it's the most popular slow cooker in the uk. but not available in nz... so no longer bother....
got my new toaster recently as well.. I've been using the old British one and had to worry about the safety issue. my (long time) favourite is Braun/Philips BUt. got Dualit 2 slice stainless steel toaster this time. at least you can get dualit stuff in Welly. It was very very expensive you don't want to know the price...........
also bought a new kettle ..... Russell Hobbs Edinburgh kettle that's the only prettiest kettle that I could ever get in nz ........... that works fine too.
A few days ago, got a big parcel from the UK - beautiful Cornish Blue tea pot, milk jug, a few tea cups&saucers, a few 9' plates, 6 Herb jugs, a garlic pot, egg cups, a few tea towels + along with Cornish Pink Cafetière, milk & sugar jugs. don't think I will buy any more tea pots etc rest of my life time. but I am still collecting Portmeirion Pomona & Denby Green.
haven't got a new phone yet. I like Jacob Jensen's simple & unique design. - again, that's the only prettiest corded phone I could ever get well. I want to use a corded phone at home- and Big no no no cordeless phone ... significant association of all benign brain tumours with cordless phone ...
But I do know the caller ID function won't work here.

Re: Which Slow Cooker?
Hi Libby
congrats on all the household purchases/arrivals.
not so sure about the cordless phone/brain tumour thing - I thought that was all down to cellphones and the power required if the phone was a long way from the mast - doubt the power required for a cordless phone in the home is anywhere near that for a cellphone. But I am often wrong and I may do a bit of research on that one.
Corded is better if there is a local power failure as they will continue to work - so are useful to summon the emergency services if there is a fire for instance. Most cordless ones have a little sticker on them now to say "get a corded as a backup!" or words to that effect.
We would like to replace some of our Royal Worcester mugs that are getting chipped and otherwise broken but don't have enough confidence in the postal service to go about it your way - good on ya for taking a chance!
All the best, LL

Re: Which Slow Cooker?
not sure you can get some old one to replace - what kind of/how old your Royal Worcester? - it depends really. While I was traveling overseas last June & July, got two pieces of Portmeirion soup bowls, because we can't get them here at all. they were bloody cheap over there and regret I should have bought some more.........But, thought carrying them with me in airplane.....thought it would be too hard ...........but it was okay (easy) though..........
We here in WElly, have Royal Doulton. but not sure about Worceser............ will go and have a look next time..
postal service from overseas (U.K), they are safe enough. (arrived within 3 days by UPS - very good - but it's standard) I am confident. In fact, I had no plan to buy Cornish Blue ware BUt, have discovered that the company went into RECEIVERSHIP........therefore you are no longer able to get them in future...that's why I hurried up (unexpectdly). I also have to replace my Royal Doulton mug (1999 Fusion White - Made in England) - bought 5 years ago. broken last year (my heart broken too ). now you are not able to get original Royal Doulton :curse: sh!te - cos the factory's moved to Far East, and they never look the same again. hence I do not want them though they are _exactly_ the same. I am still in love with the broken white mug - I think that's the only one I love really. can't find anything that I like.......yet.
Next time when I go to overseas, I will purchase a bunch of Portmeirion(sh!t)
British stuff, they are just too expensive in NZ.. seriously feel like a rip off....
