Whey, hey - house sold & heading back

Yes! Our house sale was finalised here last night. Resigned from the job today and we have flights booked back to the UK for 11th December. Christmas in England- the great tradition of eating/drinking far too much and realising that maybe you're not too young for those trousers with the elastic waist after all...at least until all the turkey has gone.
Lots to do, looking forward to walking through that departure gate at Vancouver airport. Looking at the number of people heading back from places like Canada it seems that soon will be able to justify chartering our own private jet for the trip.....the cat's giving me one of those "in your dreams mister" looks so maybe we'll stick with British Airways.
And now for something completely different, probably with alcohol.

Congratulations!
Maybe I should start reading the leaving Canada posts to see why people are leaving that utopia too!
Ah Christmas in UK is really making me incredibly jealous!

Having read through a few Ozzie posts in MBTTUK it seems that people are leaving Canada for exactly the same reasons as those leaving Australia- spooky! Maybe the Canadian and Australian cultures really aren't that different; one's really hot, the other really cold and they're both into the outdoor, sporty lifestyle in a big way.

The indoor cats coming back; he's the one giving me the look at the moment. Our other cat is an outdoor cat who adopted us in the middle of a cold Calgary winter but she'd be staying. She comes in for food and occasionally to sleep when the weather's wet here. We're looking find find her a come with someone who has a farm or acreage.
You would not believe how much it costs to get a cat back to the UK- we're looking at between $1500 and $2000 Canadian. Their flight costs more than one of ours!

Tried Air Transat but they apparently don't do the return flight to the UK as they don't yet have the permits, they are working on it. Air Canada are cheapest so far, quoted $855, BA $1200 and Thomas Cook were even higher
something stupid like $1600! We have found a Co called Worldwide Animal Travel in Vancouver that will do airport to airport service, this includes all the customs paperwork at either end plus flea/tick, vet cert for around $1400 so think we'll probably go with them as it takes a bit of the hassle out of it especially on the paperwork side. All I can say is this cat had better behave!!

Have you got a place and job lined up in the UK?

No neither! (this is Ciderman's OH by the way as he has actually gone to work today for a change!) I'm trawling Right Move looking for a rental in Chippenham but haven't seen much appealing yet, don't really want to arrange anything without actually physically seeing it first. On the job front I am more worried than he is, we hope to at least be able to get some temp/contract work until we can find FT, hoping it won't take too long. Did you have a job/house arranged before returningand how have you found the job market?
