If it is fish and chips it has to be haddock. Goodness, I so miss haddock.

Can I ask seriously why you are planning on returning to the UK as you seem totally in love with the US?

A lot of the Chippy's around here seem to have forgotten how to fry a decent bit of fish. Either that or they're too busy catering for all the other options. Minging tasteless stuff all sloppy and dripping in grease.
The best Fish n Chips I've had in recent times was from here :-

http://www.dartsfarm.co.uk/fish-shed/fish-shed.html

Monkfish in beer batter, crispy chips ... now you're talking !!

Skate great fish, too many bones, like all flounders.

I'm not planning on returning to the UK anytime soon. Whatever remotely gave you the idea I was, especially given you'll see I've just filed for my green card here in America.

Snap! I always make a beeline for skate when back in the UK and will when we return but I don't get the bones bit. Skate bones (actually cartilage) are ever so easy to remove simply by scraping away all of the lovely flesh in three seconds.

No bones to deal with in this restaurant classic:

Skate is not so common now in the UK in restaurants or chippies as it is endangered but there is always (thornback) ray.

Yehhhh, but if its battered and your walking down the street and fingerfooding it.
THE BONES OR CARTLIDGE get in the way, but.....still love skate.
Though I would normally go for haddock. When chippying and walking.
At a sit down If they had skate in batter, yup I'd go for skate and scrape.
Where is that yorki lass and lancs girly, I was hoping for fnc in thevpost this
Morning

In some states in the US, you can get arrested for being a haddock-lover. We in the UK are far more liberal-minded.

I am leaving my wife...I am going to marry an Haddock, so I can eat the kids, I will
Have a flounder for a mistress, and skate on thin ice.
Will have a mushypea life, and spice it up with sauce and curry. This is getting out of control....its a Batter of life or death.
