USA back to UK - UK/USA Tax Help
Hi Everyone,
I am a UK/US dual citizen moving back to the UK and really need help if anyone knows how to address taxes? Specifically looking for guidance and advice on when I should move back in 2024 from a tax standpoint (I heard in the UK in April at the start of the UK tax year) to the UK to best help with US/UK taxes. Also someone in the UK/US that can then do my US AND UK taxes. In the USA I use turbotax, is there anyone or company anyone could please recommend to do taxes for the UK and US?
Thanks,
DP

Re: USA back to UK - UK/USA Tax Help
Like yourself I really struggled with this when I returned in 2016 and finally found one who has been doing my returns. She is fully booked and each year I wonder if this is the year I won't get a reply to my emails.
Asking for recommendations usually will not receive many replies. Searching google for US tax advisors in England comes up with many choices, but no recommendations. I have registered with Greenback Expat Services and am on their newsletter and have attended a couple of their web seminars but have not used them. They are my standby for when my current advisor retires, moves on or whatever.
Some of the below have been recommended by posters on this site. Some are inexpensive (less than $400), some are expensive ($1,000+).

Re: USA back to UK - UK/USA Tax Help
I think I remember reading on here somewhere the first step should be to talk to the US Embassy in London - they will likely have recommendations. Perhaps it will be nothing more than the ones above.. but still perhaps worth a call?
I also read here than in future if there are issues with Social Security you should deal with the embassy Federal Benefits Unit rather than the main SS office in the US, so a call to the embassy to register the fact that you are back in the UK would be a good idea anyways.
