UK HOUSING

Re: UK HOUSING
A house we lived in, had been requisitioned and converted to flats, handed back in the late fifties. I saw that Tony and Cherie bought one there for MBP3.6 a few years ago. This showed them at MBP1.2. I wonder if they took a bath.
I found the piece
Edit. It's the house next door, I lived in #28.

Bought mine in 2001 for 94,000, sold it two years later for 120,000, it went last July for 185,000. Doubled in value in 6 years............

Re: UK HOUSING
My husband and his mum bought a flat in West Hampstead in 1996 for £140k, hubby sold his share to his mum/brother in 2000, they have just sold the flat a few months ago for about £750k...
And they say the housing market is falling now - wonder why?

I can't see evidence of it falling, just people's wildest expectations not being met.

Re: UK HOUSING
We offloaded our little house before I left in Nov just gone. We'd thought about keeping it and renting out but our margins were pretty tight. Agents were well over the eventual selling price.
One agent reckoned it an easy sale. One we went with suggested lower amount though it might take a further discount to move it. In the end we came out OK. Had only been there a year so with the increase and buying selling costs we were pretty neutral.
Places that were on the market before us still haven't sold but they haven't dropped their prices either and are still chasing last summer's values.

Re: UK HOUSING
The equity in our house is the single factor allowing us to do the emmigration in the first place.
Bought for £51K in 2000, appraises for £120-125K now. Madness.
I'd hate to be trying (in vein) to get on the UK property ladder now.

Re: UK HOUSING
The average UK price is dropping, but it's very slowly, and that's only due to the ridculously overpriced housing in Greater London.
House prices in the north are not falling, in fact some are still edging up slowly.

My last house in UK:
Bought 2000 61k
Sold 2003 119.5k
Next door sold 2007 for 138k
Not falling there but slowing down.
