Access America Travel insurance. One of the companies I use for my clients. They have coverage for airline tickets only or beyond that if need be.

Check again just before you fly back to the US as the restrictions may have eased by then.

Thanks Englishmum. From USA Laptops & handbags + carry on. From UK looks like Laptops, handbags count as carry on. Getting bloody silly.

We flew back from Gatwick 8th January and I had to empty my handbag contents into my carry on and then put my handbag in my checked in luggage. My carry on was half empty and I had just put my handbag in there, but that wasn't good enough, the rule was one piece of carry on. When I questioned it,they told me the new ruling had come in the begining of January as it was taking too long to get through secuirity as some people have large handbags. The girl at the check in desk said if I went down to security with my handbag in my carry on I would be sent back, and yes I saw this happen, so bee warned.

WHAT? That is just plain ridiculous. Next thing you know, we'll be getting into discussions with check-in staff of whether a magazine, in a WH Smith's plastic bag, inside your carry-on, constitutes 2 pieces of carry-on. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
