Decided to move back to Aberdeen area in Scotland from Sydney, Australia, and in the process of getting quotes for moving 20 foot container of mone contents stuff mid March 2005. Had one back so far from Allied Pickfords for $11750 (excluding insurance) which I thought was a bit steep. My wife called Grace to get a rough quote and they agreed with Pickfords price, and said a large chunck of it is in the road haulage costs from England to Scotland. (which they reckon is about $6K !!!) Does this sound right ?? Waiting to hear back from Wridgeways and Trans International. OSS world wide movers over the phone flat out said $11K. Having read similar previous posts I thought I would be up for maybe 7-8K with insurance !!
Do any of you guys out there have any similar experience or have advice.

We have just had a quote from Kents for $7500 excl. insurance but we are doing Melbourne to the south coast of the uk so thats not much help to you is it!!
Hope you can get it a bit cheaper...how about looking into packing the container yourselves? Has anyone here done that going back to UK?

Without getting a price difference I get the impression that by what you save by packing yourself, you may come unstuck with high insurance premiums or potential problems with claims at the other end. But thanks for the thought (and the price comparison)

I still would have thought that it would be possible to ship a container from Australia to Scotland for a similar price as to England (ie without the need for paying for road haulage for the entire length of UK - there were plenty of ports in Scotland last time I was there !!).

It cost us $9500 for a 20ft container from New Zealand to Scotland. There are some old posts about shipping prices on this forum, try a search and you might come up with a few companies that are a bit cheaper.

It cost us about $12,000 from Brissy to the North of England and that was for a 40ft container. That was with Wridgways

We used Trans International ( part of Allied Pickfords, sister company) and it cost us approx $10,000 including insurance for a 20ft container from Sydney to Sussex. We requested John Mason to off load once in Uk and they were excellent. No moans or groans..still we are claiming at mo for tube gone in Sony TV but apparently thats normal in moving!!! so we will see how they fare once this claim is settled..

Thanks for sharing - incidently just had a quote back from Wridgways for $8650 (excl. ins.) though they are still actively trying to get it cheaper !!. Seems to be moving towards what I originally thought
