I was living in the UK when Walmart acquired ASDA. I shopped there all the time and didn't notice a difference in the way they did things.

We have an Aldi in La Crosse, WI. that allows their cashiers to sit. But then again Aldi is a European based company. Always amazed me too that people are not allowed to sit over here. Wonder if they can claim any knee and leg problems as industrial injuries?

In general, there are far less protections for workers in the US. Pull this kind of stunt in the UK and you're likely to get into legal difficulties.
