Anyone coming to the UK after an absence of more than three months will be liable to charges irrespective of their citizenship BUT if you are just going abroad for a one-off eg. working holiday that won't affect you.

Don't these two confuse the hell of you? Or is it just me? :confused:

Thanks Tracey,

Thought it was just me goin a bit lala :rofl:

I've read them 3 times over and still can't make sense of them as they are a complete contradiction :confused:

I think it's best to just say nothing and they'll be none the wiser as we are moving to a new area anyway ;)

[QUOTE=alliekate;5899041]Bil.

I do understand where you are coming from, and you have some very good points to raise.

It's just that this forum is for people who are out here who (as in our case) are experiencing extreme difficulties and are desperate to get home - mostly to family. My dad is very ill and our dog died in quarantine. Is that enough ?

If we are making a mistake returning, that is our problem, and we will deal with it.

I wish you luck on your move to Spain, and hope you "live the dream". We wanted to "live the dream" too, but our lives have become shite, and I for one need this forum for support, not to be told how shit the UK is (I lived there for 38 years so I have a good idea).

No offence meant, but please think of others who are thousands of miles from home and need this forum for support.:thumbsup:
:(:(:(:(
Sorry to hear about your dad and dog......( i swear I'm in tears now)one of the reasons that were going too.....

2 months after arriving my then 4 year old was really ill, after going to about 6 doctors who said they were not taking new patients and would not see him I eventually had to take him to a bulk billing centre......3 hours later we got some anti biotics........2 days later.....not working......middle of night miles from anywhere didnt know where to go or who to turn to...

found local doctor in the end after calling them all, thank goodness. Had to get him blood tests, came back glandular fever......

3 weeks later he was still ill, more blood tests for lukemia. Thankfully he is ok, and is recovering. Been very ill. This is when I realised how far from home we were and that the nhs is not bad. We are entitled to so much over there, and dont truly appreciate it. Had we of called an ambulance for Ellis (he was v ill) we would have got a bill for at least $2000.

Good luck hun, go home, it's not a mistake, just another lesson we have . I wish your Dad well and you the strength to get through it all. xx:(:(:(

OMG.

It just shows how much we need to be able to get it all out on this forum, doesn't it ?

I am so sorry for what has happened to your family, and I send you huge (((((HUGS))))).

Sometimes, wherever you are - UK or abroad - things go wrong. Just life. It is just much easier when it goes wrong when you know the system, and you are nearby to family and friends.

I know this move (and my subsequent distress) has placed great strain on my family in the UK, which is the last thing I wanted. And i must go home to them now - it's where my heart and soul is.

I'm hanging on to my daffodil !!!! A xxx

My gardening skills are a hit and miss affair but I've stuck a few bulbs in and now some have popped up. I am particuarly pleased with one that has flowered on my mum and dad's grave. Noticed too that the hawthorn (may?) tree in the churchyard is also showing signs of life. Funny thing is that I have spotted a couple of gum trees in the village. Where did they come from?

Yes, of course you're right. I googled and see that they are sold legally here at garden centres. I suppose the ones I've seen on the street have grown from seeds carried by birds? Whenever I see one it always makes me think of Australia. I wish I could find a Jacaranda (although I'm not sure if they are actually native to OZ??)

Went for a walk today with the dog. Went out all rugged up and ended up carrying coat, hat, gloves and scarf as it was too hot! Blue skies today and noticed the cherry blossoms are out as well as the daffs and crocuses! We sat in the beer garden without coats on and enjoyed a nice chat to various people who commented on our dog. Of course they all couldn't believe we had left Australia!

been a lurker since 2002

i was born in wolverhampton. hated britain with a passion, hated weather, ect. wanted to move abroad to find that better life.

decided to move to southwest instead...(uk)..... damn! im 20 mins from beach, minutes from rolling countryside, minutes from wales!

loving it wouldt change a thing.

weather today for all you guys stuck in oz: 16 degrees, went to weston beach, absolutely packed, people everywhere ennjoying themselves.

dog walkers, hikers in shorts, donkey rides, kite flyers, jet skiers, candyfloss, ice cream!!!

we had chips, went to ASDA to buy salad and olives, ate on said beach.

just got back......best time ive had for YEARS. and in UK!

moral of story....ignore the miserable trolls on here, moaning about uk, when the problem isnt uk, its the individual/circumstance that they cannot deal with properly.

i love uk!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I really enjoyed reading this.....this is exactly what sums up my visions of being back home. And yes, you've made me truly and utterly jealous.....today I'm stuck with a daytime high of -26 with a windchill of -35 with no prospect of getting out and getting things done cos it's just too damn cold!!

Jacaranda trees are native to Africa as far as I know. They bloom in the Spring in South Africa and there are masses of them in the capital of Pretoria.

We have seen a couple when in Central Florida.
