So would I!!! theres seems to be a lot of stuff in the schools at the moment about them all learning muslim laws at the moment.

One teacher at our school told the kids to "see" how many muslims they could spot at the weekend. My friend made me laugh cos she went to Ikea and her son keep saying theres one! theres another! and she said what are you doing he said muslim spotting( no offence)

I think you are all missing the point. There is a world of difference between having your foreskin removed and having your clitoris removed.

FGM is like having the first inch of your willie removed. It is a painful procedure practiced mainly in North Africa and the Middle East by Muslims.

It's appalling, but it's become the standard of decency in some cultures, so an intact girl won't find a husband. The root idea seems to be if she can't get clitoral pleasure she's less likely to be unfaithful. Disgusting. And illegal in all western countries as far as I know, but some parents take their daughters to their homeland to have it done. Can you imagine?

I don't think they've done it yet, but there's talk in Canada of prosecuting such parents for severe child abuse when they return.

It's done all the time in the UK and the authorities turn a blind eye. Often it's done with rusty razor blades.

Not in Algeria or Libya it isn't, I dont know about the other North African countries and there isnt anything in the Koran that states it either. I think it is a cultural thing rather than a religious requirement.

I worked for a Libyan company and some of my colleagues said it is just the guys that are circumcised, they had never heard of women being done.

I know in Somalia it is a big thing and some African countries it is - not a muslim thing.

I think it was fairly popular in Australia until about 1960 because of a supposed health benefit, but since then, no.

I was told by ex MIL it was very common place in Aus.

She was a kindy teacher up until a few years ago so that must give her a shred of credibility (though this was when the sex of my unborn child was not known and she was trying to pressure me into circumcision if it was a boy).
