Re: Postcards from England
In recent years Chester City centre has become a bit run down...probably due to the Trafford Centre and outlet mall located between Chester and Ellesmere Port. Of course the old historic buildings are just at beautiful. I hope before long Chester City Centre turns back into the Chester where I used to live.

It has and it's sad to see how it's becoming. It used to be well known for the quality of stores...sadly these seem to have been replaced by cheaper shops aiming at the teenage market and charity shops. Don't get me wrong I'm all for those type of shops but Chester seems to be swamped by them now. Whenever I went into town I could see/hear loads of American and Japanese tourists...they don't seem to be around any more.

I loved your pictures of Chester I lived there for most of my life my Mother was born there and many of my family still live there I worked in the Rows and lived in Hoole the City was ruined by bad planning an awful modern buildings being built. Trafford Centre and another area outside of Chester caused great problems but Chester planning board failed to realize that people of Chester still needed places in town shop not just dress shops and gift shops for visitors. It use to be a thriving place were locals came to do their shopping no wonder it went down. They have a new venture taking place where they are asking locals what they want. I hope the people get involved and bring it back to what it was. One big problem was and still is the traffic.

You lucky devil. My son was Christened in that Church and my Mum and Dad both had their funerals from there. So many memories.

My best friend lives in Mickle Trafford. It is a small world. Do you remember the library on Hoole Road.

Hi Karim,
I have just discovered your thread. Your commentary and photographs are fabulous. I know England is beautiful but sometimes we just take it all for granted. It is nice to see it through a fresh pair of eyes. Thank you for taking the time to create this thread and I look forward to more of your travels and the pictures that accompany them.
Kind regards
Tracy
