The puppy typically has two months to find a buyer, and then they get sold to the local Korean restaurants.
The only good news is that cats get six weeks. Evil little farkers.

Next time you go to the pet shop, lift up the tail and look closely where it joins the body and you should be able to make out the "sell by" date if you are close enough.

I'm pretty sure they do but what pisses me off is that there's bright lights in the pet stores and the rats are trying to sleep ('cos they're nocturnal).

I'm never buying any pets from a pet shop again.

thats awful.. I have to say, this is the one thing I am struggling with over here... Its just done so differently in the UK. I dont think I can let myself go into another store, it broke my heart today.

It only encourages more dogs to be sold that way. If no one bought them from a pet shop the market for them would dry up.

A good dog breeder wouldn't dream of allowing their puppies to be sold in a pet shop.

To the OP...yes the poor things are kept in the cages overnight...most of the day too.

I don't like 'em either. Have yet to see a decent looking animal come from a pet store.
I've often wondered the same thing about overnights and what really happens to the ones who don't get sold.

Usually they discount the price of the dog to get it sold. If it still does not get sold, they either send it back to the breeder (which is a puppy mill since good breeders do not sell to pet stores). The puppy miller will then do one of 3 things :
A) contact a rescue to remove the animal (not often)
B) kill it and throw it in a field to be used as fertilizer
C) keep it for breeding
