Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up
Big congrats to you too <3. We are at the same stage of removals although mine is from a 3600 sq ft house. Last night sleeps is tomorrow. Movers Monday and 1/2 Tuesday. Cleaners PM Tuesday. Have weekly housekeeper but call me neurotic....always leave a house the way I would like to find it.
I feel very much in a dream state.......is this what I really want.......or is this just a fantasy to return? 41 years away with two tries back already?? 69 years old and my life is a fast motion flashback....

For those who haven't voted, CelticSpirit has been nominated in the 2013 awards for "Best Female Crumpet". If you haven't voted, get over to the Lounge!

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up
Well, here I am, in the UK and (apart from one weekend back in France) not going anywhere else until the end of January.
The longest consecutive time I will have spent in the UK since at least 1983, if not earlier....!
Of course I've been back many times for short visits, latterly a few times a year, so nothing is unfamiliar...but it's so strange knowing that I am here now! Don't need to rush to fit in seeing everyone, because I am staying.
It hasn't sunk in.
DH joining me soon (who of course hasnever lived in the UK for more than two consecutive weeks, we'll see how that goes....!)
Getting dark though (3 pm!!!!) so I have to dash out to the shop.....
And then I guess it will be time to change my statement about where I am!!
Celtic, I see you're starting other threads to keep us updated, oh dear, I so rarely look at other threads, don't want to miss anything....will have to keep checking.

Feels Christmassy with all the lights while I'm still awake enough to see them.

It was so drab and dark here one day last week that I had the curtains closed and lights on by 1:15 pm at least the Christmas tree lights cheer things up.

There are sooooo many really nice people on here that over the years have posted many nice and informative posts, too many for me to mention,

I can't take credit for the short list, but it is well deserved in my opinion.

Cheers, I was looking yesterday, too - but at Housing 21's homes. I agree about most of them looking depressing but there are some nice ones, too, that have much more character. Oddly, I found the nicer ones through a search on Google (Housing 21 + location). Housing 21 is a lot less expensive than $3000 a month, though.
My problem is my pets. I have two small dogs and normally these places will only accept one. I can't leave one behind. I would die without them. Why ever they don't build senior housing for people with pets, I don't know.

maybe you should relocate to Wales!!! and then this one:
http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/ which is a charity that really helps people who have problems with housing and pets. They have volunteers in many areas who will walk dogs/feed pets etc if you are ill or in hospital. Most helpful people to talk to.

I have been catching up on old posts and found this site which may be of use to Expats returning with pets: http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/az/p/pet.../#.UrHP8I2Cj7c and this site that talks about allowing two pets already owned
