Re: OVER 50's & 60's Chit-Chat & Daily Catch-Up Thread
In all fairness to Frome and it's residents it is for the most part a nice little town.
I never had any problems when I was the manager of the over 55's place living there but that was in another part of Frome, and from my memory Rosie does live right next door to a pub.
So there is a lesson in this for all of us, choose carefully where you live and of course I think it's awful that you have to sleep on a blow up mattress in the hall at weekend's Rosie.
Good luck with your next adventure, just look up Anchor Housing or one of any number of places to live as we get older, I do love that about being in the UK, at least we have choices in where we get to rent in retirement.

Cheers

I live in a similar situation here in Frome, but the place is an old building located in the heart of town, amongst everything going on - ancient place, very old history etc. But a noisy town. I don't get drunks at the door - I am 4 floors up! But the street is the problem. I will look for a quiet place such as Sallysimmons suggests - already started looking today. May take quite a while unless the gods are in my favour...

Oh dear. I do hope you hear something soon. Don't get too disheartened though - they do often seem to take their sweet time with hiring in the UK.
Have you really spruced up your CV? It's amazing how bad most CVs are. You can set yourself apart if you make yours a good one.

I think I need to make my CV more job specific.

Sounds great. I'll look for it when I've put the "TV computer" together. Thanks for the tip.

BW, since you have probably had quite a few years of work experience, as I have; more information than can fit into a 3-page resume which I make my max. So I tailor my resume to the type of work I am applying for and then I can bring out the more relevant types of experience that they are looking for.
Good luck with the hunt, though of course you know that the perfect job will show up at the perfect time. ... perhaps after you have found the perfect area to live in.

Yes! Review the job postings, see what skills, experiences and traits they want and then adapt your CV to address those needs every time.
Also, do research online to find out about the community/home, and address specifics about the place in your cover letter or email.
Very few people do this and it makes all the difference.

Thanks Linda and Sally
I will put more effort into my next batch of applications.
I am OK where I am for now, but I have found I no longer want to do this kind of work, don't like the office politics or the work load and am generally not a very happy bunny, but I can cope...........for now...........
I will look at getting back into house management as it would give me a lot better flat to rent than I can afford and I felt I was doing something worthwhile not just pushing papers around and sitting in front of a computer all day.
