The other good news is that we have been pre-approved for a mortgage which we didn't think would happen, so we're now considering purchasing a home, and if we ever need to return to the UK, rent the property out. Just a thought at this stage, just a consideration, there is no way I'm spending any more money on rent when I could purchase a home for less than the rent. I know it's a risk, but that's what life's all about - isn't it?? :)

Cool. I'd love to be able to do that too as I find renting is like throwing money away. We'd be able to afford a decent house with the rent we pay each month! Enjoy looking for a house!

Oh, how fun:) I'm desperate to buy something, but won't do it until we have our green cards

Thanks again guys. Sarah, I know exactly how you feel and once we come to the end of this lease, I'll basically have thrown $48,000 down the pan for a house in dire need of basic repairs. And Nicky, I know, it's a risk, but you know what, life's too short, rental market is hot here at the moment, so if we do have to leave at any point, we would hopefully be able to rent it. Maybe a silly move, who knows. I wish you luck with the green cards, don't know how far in to the process you are, it's so damn frustrating, but I suppose, we can't do anything but wait - good luck anyway and thank you.
