Dots, sorry to hear about your problems getting your UK qualifications accepted here- if it is any consolation I know many that has happened to. Good luck with your career in the UK.

May I ask if you have managed to register you or your daughter as a UK resident the last 3 years otherwise won't you have to pay foreign student fees?

Thanks Liana, although I think it will be quite scary going back into the classroom after so long!
As for my daughter, I had read a lot about the 3 year rule and the struggle so many people were having with international fees so we did a lot of research before she applied and arded each university with letters of how she intended to go back (with or without us), got copies of plane tickets (she'd had extended visits each Summer) and probably what clinched it was that we own a small share of my parents' house so we were able to say we 'owned' a UK property. She got home status in 2 out of the 3 Unis she applied to.
I'm sure it's luck of the draw but also for us persistence paid off too.

We are moving back mainly for 2 reasons, firstly my qualifications are not recognised here. I'm a teacher and because I did a Graduate Diploma before my PGCE and haven't got a degree (even though I have 8 years teaching experience in the UK) the Ontario College won't license me. I have fought them for 4 years over this and even though I have had some work in private schools there is nothing permanent so financially in the long term, it is better for us to be in the UK.

Also our eldest (who moved here with us when she was 12) was always determined she would go back to England when she was 18. Now she is and has a place in university for September, so the distance would be a problem.
Then of course there's missing our family..still...after 6 years.
Which areas are you looking at moving to?
How did you get around the international fees for your daughter? Mine has to re-do two years of school as UK uni's won't accept her Grade 12 and she will also be classed as an international student having to pay those huge fees until we have been resident in the UK for three years. Curious how you got around that because unless you have a letter from the originating LEA, the Universities can revoke home status as soon as she attends? Residency is the key, not property ownership, that was made clear when we appealed. Would you mind stating which Universities agreed to home status so that my daughter can reapply/apply?

I meant to say arded not 'arded'
As for whether you have to re-do parts of school that really depends on which country and if in Canada which province apparently. Also which Grade 12 courses they take. The whole situation is very frustrating, not to mention unfair!!

Inconsistent - but my daughter has first year Uni level courses (AP) from BC which are given more credit points than straight Ont Grade 12 courses...so I am very interested in which Universities please, as my daughter will immediately apply. She has been kept here by court order, which is accepted as a good reason for intention to return applications, and yet she was still refused. The Universities all referred us back to the residency requirement and they all, without exception, stated that all Canadian Grade 12 levels are below A level and that she would need to upgrade. She is a A Honor Roll grad with plenty of sciences too. As soon as you could let me know, I would very much appreciate it.

Unis are Bedfordshire (opened in Aug 2006) was Luton and Liverpool Hope University. I didn't know they could revoke home status. I might give them a call next week just to check. I have asked before and they said she was definitely a home student and they wouldn't change their minds. They have given us written confirmation and told us to keep this as proof.

Many thanks! Yes they can revoke the status, if the residency criteria is deemed not to have been met. This gives us hope! University of Bedforshire's website asks for an IB though? Very confused but will call them first thing Monday.

Under normal timescales this should not be a problem. However if there's a delay for some reason, you may want to keep your plans for moving flexible so that you don't end up abandoning your citizenship application.

You could probably have got your citizenship long ago, of course.

Which areas are you looking at moving to?

We are thinking of Suffolk/Essex, as we hope to get on the housing ladder. Most of the family/friends live in Hertsfordshire, but this area is nice but we want to own a home, not just rent our money away.

Does anyone know of a really nice area to raise 3 children....Looking for good schooling, and reasonable priced homes, and nice village/town? in suffolk/essex...love to hear from you.
cheers
xo

good Luck w/your teaching in the UK, shame on Ontario for not letting you teach.
