There are worse definitely. But...... Luton is by far and away the worse town in that area of the UK - imo anyway.

I have been to Luton once. My roadmap and atlas do show it to be located in England, but in practice I think it is somewhere between Uttar Pradesh and Bangalore, with a wee bit of Transylvania thrown in for good measure. The surrounding countryside certainly looks as if it's still in England though, and it's really pretty if you ignore the M1.

Generally a dump, would drive through with doors locked, very uncomfortable place IMO.

Don't know it but it is great because of its proximity to London. That's where my family is. What is it like as a place? any places to avoid living? all advice welcome.

you could base in Leighton Buzzard and commute-thats what we did.

We used to live in Bedfordshire (biggleswade) which is a borough of Luton and a much nicer place!

Luton is home to thousands of Muslims and Indians and parts of the town is quite rough, personally I wouldnt want to live there but each to their own. (think of South Norwood -London!) The town centre is quite big - lots to do and the market is very good. Hundreds of restaurents, (Indian mainly), big indoor shopping centre. Not sure if its a nice place at night - lots of second rate pubs seem to attract teens who enjoy causing trouble. We only ever went a few times for a look round and the market.

You might be better off looking at housing just outside Luton, like Batford maybe which is on the Lower Luton road. About ten minutes from Luton itself.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Steve

There are so many better places to live around there. Under 10 miles in any direction (except north= Milton Keynes) will get you to some of the most desirable parts of the home counties. If I was settling back up there (originally from Herts) I would be looking at St Albans, Tring, Berkhampstead, Wendover. Not sure you'd afford a house there these days on a teacher's salary though.

Luton is useful for those supercheap getaway flights to Europe however.

I used to live in Hertfordshire, Old Welwyn. Quaint little village then moved onto Sandy just outside Biggleswade, much better.

Flights can be done so much easier online without having to go to a Luton booking agency, and quicker.

IN my humble opinion, I have found that large asian communites are ok, as long as you dont mind being in the minority?

what I have found is no issues or problems with indians but Pakistanis want to remain separate and do not want to assymilate.

just my observation !

I'd agree with that. With Luton though, it's not so much the ethnicity of the town, it's the high amount of social housing and therefore the general feel of the place. Even after the upgrade of the Arndale Centre, the car parks attached are still the most feral I've ever had to go near. The whole town (city) centre is dismal, it brings the whole area down so people don't want to live there so there's less love, for want of a better word, around the entire town.

It's sad basically.

I wouldn't say Biggleswade in in the Borough of Luton - it's in the same county but more than 20 miles away and has very little of the Luton influence IMHO.

I was in Sandy a couple of weeks ago visiting my stepson! I also used to live in Biggleswade
