Actually, to me, 'supper' sounds very 'posh', or, perhaps, pretentious. I've only ever heard 'supper' from 'posh' Brits, never from Americans (other than, as I said, growing up - 'supper' was a cookie at bedtime!).

And don't forget being a kid in the 70's/early 80's - when you went out to the token Berni Inn it was always called "Going Out For A Meal"...
Prawn Cocktail
Steak
Weird Dessert
Irish Coffee
Go home...do it all again a year later...

Nah -- comes from the insomnia that leads me to sleep in past "brunch" and have to go for a meal between lunch and supper.
I came up with the word on my own, but apparently so have others:

Jerry: More cereals? that's your third bowl today, you had it for breakfast and lunch.
Jeannie: Hey! So what's the deal with brunch , I mean that if it's a combination of breakfast and lunch.
How comes there's no lupper or no linner.
I never realized till now that she mentioned lupper as well as linner!

Snap! Am also from Gloucestershire, and it was always dinner and tea. When working in Bristol though, it was lunch and tea. Odd considering how close they are. Here in IA though, it's lunch and supper, it confuses me!
Supper is bourbons and milk before bed.

I seem to remeber when at school the bell would ring for Dinner time at 12pm, and remeber you either stayed or went home for your dinner lol

Growing up, we ate out only once a year and Prawn Cocktail was some fancy, magical treat! I don't think we were allowed to order steak ... (too expensive). Nowadays, since my g/f and I can never agree on what to eat, (and hate doing dishes!) we eat out almost every night (or eat leftovers). Our fridge looks like a student's fridge - beer, wine, leftover containers!
Nowadays I have a hard time taking 'Prawn Cocktail' seriously - even though it can be done very nicely.
