Ah - but no-one with a 'normal' budget can live there ...

But Webridge generally is a nice little town anyway.

Epsom is not full of 'pikeys' as you so delicately put it. However the two weeks prior to the Derby has an interesting influx ! I would re-consider areas around Ash if that is a problem for the OP ....

What about good old Tunbridge Wells??? Trains to London Bridge/Charing Cross. Lovely 'village' area, Regency houses, Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre (includes Fenwicks).

I looked into it before, but the trains to London are an hour. It's a bit long for dh every day. It does seem very nice.

I grew up in Guildford, it certainly was a good place then, plenty going on. As with most towns you'd have to pick your area carefully though, unless things have changed, there were some places you'd rather not be.
Plenty of good schools around and a very popular Highstreet.
Having said that I left as soon as I could, bought a house in Haslemere which is 12 miles south on the Surrey/Hampshire/Sussex border.
Maybe take a peek at some of the villages around Guildford, you'll find a smaller town called Godalming only 4 miles from Guildford, all of these places offer good connections into Waterloo.
Good luck

Trains from Tunbridge Wells take 45/50 mins and there are around 3/4 trains an hour. Not too bad, as commutes go.

if you like weybridge but think its too expensive - try Addlestone or chertsey next door. We found it good value for money when we were looking into the area. It is close to J11 of the M25 so good road access and has a one stop link to the main weybridge-woking rail line. We lived there for 7 years before ending up in the US.

I live in Chertsey and used to live in Camberley too.
The quickest direct train is from Staines or Weybridge.
Haven't really seen house prices fall too much here though so not many bargains to be had.
Frimley, Frimley Green are not too bad with easy access to Camberley.
