Hi Everyone
Can anyone tell me if we move back to the UK after being away for over 12 years would my wife be able to claim disability or benefits , she is a few years behind on National insurance but has Lupus and is recovering from Cancer treatment.
I have read different things some information says you cannot claim for two years some say you can so we are confused .
Any help will be appreciated thanks

Hi, welcome to BE.
Is your wife a UK citizen?
I think it's 3 months wait for most benefits, but I'll move this to the MBTTUK forum where you'll get the answers.
Best of luck with the move.

Hi
Thank you for the replies really appreciated, we are currently in Bahrain and lived in the middle East for over 12 years , we can't seem to work out what and if we can claim when we return home.
not sure what benefits my wife would be entitled to probably disability which i think is called ppi now i think , seems difficult to find out and get any help i have contacted citizens advice and they said 2 years you can't claim anything but contact your British Embassy they may help .
My own fault i didn't research the medication available in Bahrain i never thought for one moment in this day and age a country would not have a importer for prescribed medication so we are left with little choice .

Your wife will need to live in Great Britain for at least two years before becoming eligible for PIP. Ditto for Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance.

PIP if under 65 Attendance Allowance if over that age Both have residence conditions -
- must have been in Great Britain for at least 2 of the last 3 years (this does not apply if you’re a refugee or have humanitarian protection status)
