I guess it all depend on when the image was taken. I wish there was some way to see a 'live' image because it would be great to see what an area looks like right this minute and not a year or more ago.

Hi, Thank you for a big hug! I'm originally from near Preston, but have lived in Australia for the last 9 years, and seriously contemplating either a move back to the UK, or investigating some other feasible scenarios (if i work out the magic solution, i'll be sure to share it!) to ensure i spend more time with my family in the UK. My Australian husband and i are looking to have children in the next couple of years and i think this has heightened my feelings of homesickness.
Please keep us all updated on your journey, i'm so happy for you XX

Well I've just been looking online for tickets and found an unbelievable fare. One way from Phoenix to Manchester for $522. The trip is a bit of a pain, but the end result would be worth it.. LOL

Phoenix to Dallas
Dallas to New York La Guardia
Change airports to New York JFK (4 hour layover in New York)
JFK to Manchester

I guess it doesn't seem all that bad when you think about it.

Now I just need to get my darn passport. As it is I can imagine I'm going to get it, book my ticket and fly out all within days of each other. Because I'm not going to wait another week to fly out if possible.. LOL I am presuming the passport office in the UK was closed on Friday and today because of Easter, so if they print it out tomorrow or Wednesday I MIGHT get it back by the end of the week or Monday of next week. As I'm looking for an April 9th departure it's going to be CLOSE !!!!!!!!

I think I need a cuppa!!! LOL

That's a GREAT price! Trip doesn't look that bad at all, especially if you don't have too much luggage or any pets. Hope your passport hurries up and gets there already

I know..it was after much searching that I found a web site called www.airtkt.com and www.webjet.com Actually once you get over the shock at the low airfare the actual trip isn't that bad. I'll have 2 suitcases to check in at Phoenix and they should go all the way through to Manchester so there will just be me and my laptop bag . Getting from La Guardia to JFK sounds easy enough and the layover gives me plenty of time to do that without stressing.

It's flying AA and they have a TWO bag free allowance which saves me paying for that extra suitcase.. LOL. Although isn't American Airlines one of the companies that have merged? Hope that wouldn't create scheduling or flight issues.

Will be here with my fingers crossed for the next week with regards to my passport LOL.

I've flown AA many times across the Atlantic. They became my airline of choice after they were so helpful getting me home when I had a family emergency. I'm not sure if they merged with BA but they share routes. I like being able to fly back to England with AA because I can do an overnight stop in Chicago and take a morning flight to LHR that gets me in that night which seems to save me jetlag as I don't lose a night's sleep on the plane. But I like to fly back BA as they have a direct flight into Denver. Now that they have merged I can do that easily.

If you are changing Airports in New York Whofan you will probably have to collect your bags and take them with you across town.

AA haven't merged with BA. But I do know AA merged with US Airways.

No, I would think it will be checked into LGA and then you'll need to take it with you across to JFK and check it in again there. If you think about it, the first leg is a domestic flight, not an international one. When you get your bags over to JFK, then you'll check them in with customs for the international flight. You'll need that layover to collect your bags get a cab, get over to JFK and then check in for the international flight. You'll have plenty of time - it just means you won't be sitting around for most of it.

I really used to hate that JFK to Manchester flight because I cannot sleep on planes. When you arrive it's something like 2am for you, but for everyone there it's morning. Still, all you need is a comfy bed once you get there and you can soon get yourself back on track.

Ok, I might have to agree to disagree on this one.. I've flown many times where the first leg of my flight was a domestic one and my luggage has always been checked through to my final destination. When I went to the UK last year I went to London via Dallas from Phoenix and once I checked in at Phoenix I didn't see my suitcase again until London. I've been on flights where the domestic flight took me to a totally different airport than the International one and I still didn't see my suitcases.

The flight from JFK doesn't seem too bad...according to the details it says it gets me into Manchester at 7.30am local time.

I've done that too, each time we fly, (except one time in Toronto where we had to collect, go through customs, round a corner and drop it back off!) but it was within the same Airport, when you change airports completely the baggage handlers would have to take luggage across the city. I can't see them doing that.
