Default Household bills.

Hi
I'm from the UK (N.Ireland) and I moved overseas 13 years ago. I'm planning to move to England but curious about some general things. Heating for instance, is it mostly gas or is oil fired heating a popular option? Monthly cost of gas for two people? I know it can differ a bit from house to house but a monthly average?
Thanks

I'd guesstimate a monthly gas and electric bill for 3BR semi at about £100-£150 per month, averaged across the year. That's for gas central heating and hot water, electric for everything else. You generally only find oil-fired in rural areas with no gas supply.

I can't give you the actual costs for oil fired, but my sister has it at her house in Wales, and the cost of filling the tank is apparently "crippling". I don't think its very common unless you are out in the sticks.

Hi
I’m from NI too. Currently in France but might move to England one day.
My mum in NI has oil (not unusual there at all) and it costs her a lot less to fill her tank than it costs me here in France.

Oil would be unusual in England unless you're right out in the countryside. Most people are on gas. Can't help with costs as we weren't on mains gas (we were very rural) and our heating was all electric (heat pumps).

Your question may be region-specific, because I seem to recall that NI (I have never lived there and don't have relatives there) doesn't (or at least "didn't") have a natural gas distribution pipe system, making oil heating relatively common there.

I agree with the others who have already posted above, that you are unlikely to find anyone using oil heating in England, Wales, or Scotland, unless they live waaay out in the countryside.

Thanks. A bit pricey, but affordable.

Property type and size will impact cost - if you have a 1 bed property (house or flat), you are more likely to be at the lower end of that average. If it's a 3 bed property, then you are likely to be at the high end.

Google throws up the same figures as the guesstimate from dunroving. Here's on example - https://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/...rage-bill.html
