I too used to suffer from being restless and thought I would be able to solve it by living somewhere different. We came to Oz in December 05 for a 3 week holiday. I loved it the first week, started to miss the UK in the second week and couldn't wait to go home by the 3rd week. When we got home I was sure that I didn't want to live here - BUT I let something nag away at me in my head and now, here we are. And guess what - by the second week we were here I knew it wasn't for me......I should have trusted my gut instinct in the first place.....let's just say it's a lesson learned! We haven't been here too long but I know in my heart that I don't want to live here.

You sound like you have a lovely life and maybe you should try the idea of taking a few extended holidays here.

I'm glad I made the "mistake" of coming here and we will make the most of the rest of the time we are here but I miss (almost) everything about the UK and I want it back!!

Having read this back I'm not sure if it will help you at all..!

Jack, you didn't really say what Oz represents to you. What adventure you anticipate there. Other than the sex, of course. Or no, that wasn't you, was it?

Why not Canada, or the US, or Spain, or.....

Clearly it means something special to you. People here can probably tell you if it's likely or not.

But I agree that holidays there sound better. Maybe adventurous holidays every year. What do you usually do for a family holiday?

[QUOTE=islandergirl;7033968]OP why not take two months off and really "do" Australia, travel around it and get it out your system, without all the stress and trauma of uprooting your family.

We did have six weeks in Perth in 92, and decided then, it was not for us, I settled for a while, but now I have some regrets and thinking is it too late

If it aint broke, dont fix it!

The thought of hot sweaty sex actually appeals to me

Oz for me represents, sunshine, a swimming pool, coming home form work and joining the children playing in the pool, a healthier lifestyle, not having to habitant for the winter, and hot sweaty sex.....

We did try Nova scotia, one for four weeks, again we liked it, and I am torn about going there,
Great house for the prices !!!

Holiday wise , we usually go somewhere is the uk, for a couple of years and then every third year go to US, or Canada, once to oz

That's what disappoints me, is that I have thought and talked about going to oz for years , but never really had the courage, and now my excuse is that I am too old at 50.

My problem in a way is my success here, I run a small successful business, good income ,have the nice house, two cars, and children doing well at school, so its hard to say I am getting away from all this !!!.

My wife has never been keen to go and as shes says, why change when we have everything here, but for me I am still unsettled and many times wish we had gone.

We did visit perth in 92, and decided then that although a nice place it was not for us, yet as the years go on I am still looking at the other mans grass.

Is this just a male thing that no matter what success, we are always looking for more ?

More what ? I don't even know myself, I am just always restless.
Go on holiday, don't come here to live! It's way to far away trust me!

If you feel the need for a major change, then perhaps move to a different part of Britain, or even maybe to somewhere in Europe. That way you can have the nicer weather, and an adventure, but be close enough to go back to UK whenever you want to, (and you will almost certainly want to).

Having said that, if you have a successful set up there and it's all going well, then as the old saying goes "if it ain't broke..."

TAKE A HOLIDAY, THAT'S ALL YOU NEED!

oh my god! great for a holiday but living here i feel so isolated.
Do you know Perth is one of the most isolated cities in the world.
If you like holidays then really this is not the place for you as it costs a fortune to get on a plane.
It may be lovely and sunny but this is still everyday life .
The times when i have loved the sun is when i have gone on holiday so i relaxed and enjoyed myself, which has meant us getting on a plane to sit there for at least four hours to get to the other side of Oz.
If you have a good life style then i would say come over for a holiday. We cannot wait to get back and have Europe on our doorstep.
I lived in Bebington and Bromborough so i know Merseyside well and there are some lovely areas there,
we are coming back in few weeks time and cannot wait .

True. It seemed every other woman in Plano was pregnant! I was convinced that there was something in the water.
