Default Going to return to Perth

Hi there been a while since been on here , well ill get straight to the point , we are waiting for a job offer to be finalized and are moving back to Perth . 1 year ago i never thought we would be doing this but we both finally feel that we can now put our life in the UK to rest . Coming back has made us both realise were we want to be . From my previous posts (and i have read them over and over) and the time we have been back has given us the opportunity to finally realise were we belong . Our memories of the UK should stay that way , life has moved on over here and we do not like what we see . Before emigrating we had well paid jobs and a very good lifestyle , unfortunately we have not been able too find that since being back . Our families are all here and when we tell them of our decision to return i dont think it is going to go down to well .
I dont want to say that Perth is perfect but it has more to offer us than the UK (there is no utopia) . I have my views on the UK and am not persuaded by others opinions and feel that if we dont make the move now we will have missed a great opportunity to live our lives for the better .
We came back and thought we were doing the right thing but over the year have come too realise that , yes we made a mistake and a rather expensive one at that too, but we had the opportunity to do it and it has now put our minds at rest . The rest of our lives now lies ahead of us and we will not be reflecting on the past (we , more so me) have been doing that for too long . So with fresh enthusiasm we await our destiny.

Hi Shane,

I just wondered what has changed from your last post in late Feb 2011 when you seemed to be happy with your decision to move back to the UK and had no regrets.

We are finally about to make the move back to the UK after 10 yrs in Melbourne & know that the first 12-18 mths will be rocky and a real period of re-adjustment. We have decided not to move back to the same area that we are from but will be about 45 minutes drive away, so we can see family/friends fairly easily, but can start a new adventure at the same time.

All the best,

BB

I'm curious as to your line of work Shane?

Was it very easy to land a job back in Perth from this end?

Hi again , wish we hadnt moved back to same area (boston) as it is not a nice place but wife wanted to be close to family . As for work im an overhead linesman and am still not back in my trade , i am driving for a living , plenty of jobs for me in perth though. As for life it seems that almost everyone claims some sort of benifit over here and the work mentallity sucks , though this may be due to the crap wages being offered. I miss the open spaces and feel that the uk is very crowded , and has also become more of a 24/7 society. We have brought a house and have been doing it up , we plan on renting it out .Like i wrote earlier no where is utopia but we both feel that our lives will be better back in Perth

Is overhead linesman in Perth "out of town work" or will you be able to find plenty of this type of work in the suburbs?....Its a shame you have had a bad experience..but please do not paint all of the UK as the same (not saying you are or going to do)....as we have not found that to be the same for us...maybe it's all to do with the areas you live in and the poeple you mix with...which is basically the same old same old wherever you live in the world. Once again good luck (you have also written the same info on a different thread and wished you well on that one as well...)

having done the same August last year (Cornwall-NZ-Cornwall-NZ)

I wish you every success Shane, We returned to NZ a different city then after going back to where we had come from, we have just had a real bad bout of home sickness 9 months in but I know I can not return at present but who says I am here forever, life is tough and the curse of the expat will always be there!

Reading this made me laugh as this is just what we said 2 years ago as we flew back to Perth, this is it now, no more moving, we have got the UK out of our system. And where are we now- we have been back in the UK for 5 weeks and absolutely loving it, so far. After having ping ponged so many times I have the T-Shirt I reckon the mistake we made was saying to ourselves it is forever then the pressure and sense of failure is hard to deal with. So now I say for the next couple of years we are happy here in the UK if that changes then we will be open to anything. A place to live is just that, to be happy you have to be happy in your heart then I reckon you can be happy anywhere and life is for living. I don't think we have taken a step back but another step forward in our adventures.
