Well......it's finally here, the shippers are arriving in the morning and packing up our worldly possessions.

We don't fly to LA until July 3rd, but the stuff leaves on Thursday and will hopefully be reunited with us at some point in the future.

I feel your pain - hope you had BIG clearout - we couldn't as we were already over here, and now I have been working my way through 400+ boxes. Only 60 or so to go.

When you get your stuff, get the removers to unpack as much as possible. Our lot wouldn't, when they should have, hence the reason I am ploughing through boxes now!

Is your stuff going in a container by sea? Many years ago a neighbour in the sea freight business gave us the following advice when we moved to the US :- when the container arrives, go inside it in daylight hours and close the doors. Wait for a minute or two, and see if you can see any light - if you can the container probably has holes in it - consider sending the container back and insisting on another one. Household goods are so light (relative to other freight) they go as deck cargo, and sea water / rain etc can get in those holes and trash your posessions.

The first one we got had a bunch of holes, and they did send a replacement that was OK.

I remember this point in our move - that's when the reality hit home for me and that we were actually making the move. A very exciting time, but also a very scary time too. We were lucky, we still had the kids to deal with, had our leaving party to sort out and just kind of, kept busy. It will all fall in to place, please believe me. Make the most of the time you have left before you go, to catch up with people who you're not going to see for a while, and embrace the new life which is ahead of you. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to reading about your journey

This is so true!!! Every time I visit the US I get asked if i'm Australian!! Visiting Australia for the first time at the end of this year, will be interesting to see if I just blend right in........
