Default Going home, bit by bit.

Just thought I would say hi.

Having spent the last few years on the Australia forum, the visa app, the house selling, packing etc etc....... it now appears we are heading home.

DW & DD in June and me by Christmas.

The pull of family / friends / green grass / pub lunches / and proper schooling is too strong to resist.

Just got a shipping quote from Melbourne to UK ($7500), which is sort of what we expected.

I guess I'm officially a MBTTUK bod now.

Pete

The pull of good schooling is certainly a big one for me too. It's a wait and see...

Good luck and best wishes......hopefully we will be back before to long having a drink in our "local" beer garden just as soon as we sell our house here......

Welcome!! Yes there's loads of us who have decided a life in the UK is preferable to a life in Oz - we've been back in the UK 20 months now and not one day I have regretted coming home.

Despite all the good things about living in Australia, for some of us it will just never be enough.........

Have to admit that the schooling issue is a major factor. The schools that we have used for our daughter is considered the best of the state schools in our area and even this we find poor. Our DD is grade 3 here (8 going on 9), grade 4 in UK. In UK she was about middle of her class, here she is top and the teacher thinks she should have gone into the year above.

DW has started to work in the school, helping with reading. In our daughters age group around 30% have very poor reading skills. When Ruth (DW) asked the school what had been done to help these children in the earlier years.........answer..............not much as "we don't have time or resources", therefore these kids get left behind. Pretty sad really.

Anyway positive times ahead

You tried it and its not for you, well said, also look how much you will appreciate UK when you do go back, many, many people don't realise this until they have moved away.

It's the simple things......

Was back in Glasgow for an 11 day visit just last week ................ and didn't want to come back here. Familiarity,friends/family,common ground and banter are all but a few of the things we love about home. I know we could have made a go of it here if we'd really wanted to stay - but we decided it just wasn't for us, and we'll be going back next May. Not going back to Scotland - will be settling in York hopefully as it's a favourite city of ours. Nothing lost in this venture except a bit of cash - which is ALWAYS replaceable. All the best mate!
