Turned on brekkie telly this morning and what did I see - another bloody feature on 'moving to a dream life down under' - today's feature - Perth
.
Cut to that Aussie bloke that always does Christmas Day from Cottelsoe beach showing us round some English expats 4x2 plus swimming pool - he showed us plebs in the UK what a wonderful house we could have with large 'lounge room' and spacious bedrooms blah blah and then proceeded to use the phrase 'relaxed family living' about a million times.
Then we cut to the lucky lucky family who are ever so lucky to be living the 'dream life' in Perth - first they showed the Dad racing around on a jet ski with child on the front, then cut to the family by their pool saying what a relaxed life it was in the 'amazing' WA climate and then he had the cheek to say you could buy a home like theirs for about £200K - (absolute b*ll*cks unless it is of course in some God forsaken suburb that any self respecting person wouldn't be seen dead in).
Then they asked the poor woman what she thought of it all - 'I love the climate but miss the buzz of London' she said (roughly translated to 'this is such a boring dull lifeless place that once the cameras are off me I'm off to slit my wrists').
For crying out loud GMTV - when will it all stop.....??

I won't mention the particular suburbs I mean for fear of offending some that might live there - suffice to say there are some suburbs in Perth that I would not have wanted to raise my kids in or that are just IMO a lifeless, concrete housing estate with rows of identical houses. I think a 4x2 with pool in a good suburb in Perth for 200k is very unrealistic.
Hope you are enjoying your new life down under though

My sister was straight on the phone to me last night telling me all about this ****. I would love to know where you can get a 4x2 with a pool for $200K - In the Ghetto I would think!!!!!Incidentally, when I was in the UK I saw a feature on GMTV about Adelaide. Family frolicking along Glenelg beach (admittedly a fantastic beach) and I think the lashings of ginger beer were out of camera shot. They didn't say which burb the family lived in though.
Cut to interview with mum and dad. Dad saying there were loads of Science & Tech jobs in ADL (I don't know if there are) and he was living the life of riley and his wife didn't have to work. Funny how he clammed up and refused to answer when Andrew Castle asked him whether the cost of living was cheaper than UK. Hmmmmmmm.
I emailed GMTV asking them to give a more realistic view on Australia but unsurprisingly they didn't reply

There's definitely a 'Uk is going to the dogs' sentiment driving this shite in the media. Do you think it's because the media (apart from BBC) have an agenda to oust Labour (rightly or wrongly)? I just can't see what other possible reason there could be for all this doom and gloom about how rubbish the country is perpetuated by its own media.
They say you get the media you deserve, so I guess it's what people want to hear.

I am going to email GMTV again and ask them where you can buy a house for 4x2 with pool for $200K or if they were lying

Anybody want to do the same. Might get a reply if we do it en masse.

Guys before you start emailing 'en masse' - NB is right - if you look at my original post it was 200,000 POUNDS not DOLLARS - still unrealistic though in most Perth suburbs.

Yep did just read it again thanks. Have just emailed them asking where this family lived in Perth - won't get a reply though.

Maybe they lived way south or way north of Perth (don't know prices out of the metro area). I still cannot think of anywhere in Perth where you would get a 4x2 with pool for that amount of money even in this falling market.
Any ideas?
Cue someone to post a few houses from realestate.com
