Hey Triumphrob, Immunise & Rowena Jayne.....
......perhaps you should do what Calle is doing and booking your dog(s) onto the QM2 transatlantic liner....much cheaper than flying them....see here the fabulous rate she found:

I think the crate has to have holes on all 4 sides. Many of the airline approved cages I've seen do not have holes at the back. Check with your airline. You may have to drill some holes.
Also, the size crate you have to have for airline approval is bigger than most people typically have for travel crates. The one I'd been using for transporting my dog in the truck, etc., was too small so I had to get a bigger one.
