Follow That Fire Engine
#1
Kia Ora from New Zealand.
Follow That Fire Engine is circumnavigating the globe. It's a charity run supporting Macmillan Cancer Support , The Fire Fighters Charity and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
This is a fire engine from Christchurch Dorset . My neck of the UK woods.
I was lucky enough to see it Christmas Day down at Kateriteri , a local beach near us . It was a shock to see it TBH and brought tears to my eyes , as well as warming my heart.
Both my parents needed the specialist care of the Macmillan nurses. My Mum had hospice care at their special unit . If it hadn't been for them I couldn't have given my Dad his wish to be allowed to die in his own home. Their support to both of us at that time was unfailing.
My husband and I both know Xch Dorset retained firemen. I stayed with one of them for several months when my husband had already left for New Zealand.
The job they do is just so brave I feel. I don't know how they do what they do.
It left New Zealand yesterday & is currently on the high seas , heading for the USA.
I just thought that some of you might like to follow it;s USA journey and maybe get to see it, if it passes your way.
Cheers

Hope they do - looks like a cool project and a great cause. Roy Castle was a bit of a tw@t on Record Breakers, but his very public fight against cancer, and the energy he put into his charity work should be an inspiration for us all.

We met up with the engine in Katy, Texas on Friday night and bought them dinner at the Elks Lodge. They seemed to have had a good time and raised almost $400 I think.
Check the route out on the website http://www.followthatfireengine.com/...oute/us-route/ and try to meet them if you can.

Aaagh - didn't know it was going to be here! Last time I checked the website it didn't get this far.
Mind you, we had the boys Blue and Gold at cubs, so probably wouldn't have made it anyway....did you get them to the Katy rodeo? Far better than its bigger cousin to the East.....but then it would be because my kids were in it

Christ on a bike! Someone needs to tell their web designers that less is more: that site is appalling...
