Hi Pants! I'm really excited for you. Oh it seems so far off but my day will come also. No matter how rough your flight may be with little miss, just remember your reward!! Just focus on your family and proper English life that you cannot get anywhere else on earth. I do hope mr. Pants will be joining you soon. All the best with him selling and wrapping things up.

Hi Pants,
Glad to hear things are happening for you at last. Our little girl was 3 1/2 when we flew home and we were amazed at how good she was, we had a couple of unconsolable crying episodes which both times ended in her falling fast asleep for a good few hours. I took loads of books, crayons paper etc but she entertained herself with the handset, pretending she was phoning people and watching and trying to play the Nintendo.
I am sure your little one will be fine, just think what awaits at the end of your journey, I know that I never thought that I would be so pleased to see Manchester it was such a relief to get back.
By the way we have had a glorious day today up here in Cumbria, not a cloud in the sky but temperatures that you can still enjoy your day instead of hiding inside in the Air Con.
Safe journey home Pants and little one, I am sure hubby will be close behind.

THANKS EVERYONE...
and for the tips with Miss Pants, I do think she will be in her element with the handset and movies etc. Keep getting waves of sadness but have spoken to my mum and just to hear the excitement in her voice lifts me.
Mum hasn't seen Miss Pants/us since she came over for a visit over 11/2yrs ago and my sisters/friends haven't seen her/us since she was 5mnths old. Miss Pants is 3 in November...so I know there will be floods of tears when I arrive and see everyone and in my heart it won't feel 100% complete until Mr Pants is with us,... one happy family.!!

Ooh, my son is 3 in November too, where does the time go? I thought coming out here (Canada) 1 year ago it was worth a try, would be a good experience etc etc which it has been but oh, you don't realise how much you'll miss family. Definitely took it for granted when I saw them at least once a week, now see them once/maybe twice a year and the thought of my 2 children missing out on knowing them and my family seeing my kids grow up is just horrible. My sister is now pregnant with her 1st child and for me that was that - we have to go back!
So it really struck a cord when you said how old Miss Pants was last time a lot of people saw her. I really think it is so important for family to know each other. More so than 'better lifestyle/size of house/climate'. You can't replace family whichever country you go to. A lot of people probably won't agree (ie dh doesn't quite see it the same way but I'm working on him!)
Have a good flight back, just think you won't see any of the people you're flying with ever again so just get through it the best way you can
and have a wonderful reunion when you arrive and then another when Mr Pants arrives!

This is a really nice website (set up by a Kiwi whom has done the long-haul flights to Blighty) where you might pick up some useful tips:
http://www.flyingwithkids.com
There really isn't a lot to do at the airport in KL (I guess you're flying with Malaysian Airlines) but there is a lot of space - it's all glass windows and shiny floors, so get your little one to run around there if possible. Also, another 'knock out' antihistamine is 'Phenergan' which a lot of mums use on the expat run from Singapore to the UK when travelling without their spouses.....but I've heard it sometimes has the opposite effect LOL!
Good Luck!

OH YES!!! Phenergen......
I would advise caution with this if your child has never had it before. Our doctor gave us some for our kids when we travelled to USA... They were awake for almost 31 hours with just a 5 min nap as we landed. (we had to wake them to disembark).
Lets just say Mr H and I were totally exhausted, then we had to deal with the kids not settling to the time change as well.... :scared:

So Little Miss Pants and I are leaving Oz next week ( 14th) and arrive in super busy Heathrow 15th at the gorgeous waking hour of 5.50am..eeekkkkkkk still I'm sure plenty out there know what that's going to feel like
but I don't care we are going to be home. Back to loving family and friends, seasons, cheap travel, history, culture, Indian take away ( saddo), M&S, Next, Oasis, country pubs, green grass, new baby's I haven't ever met,.....the list goes on.!
I will be very sad to go and already have started blubbering...soft olive !just saying the goodbyes will be bad enough but I am leaving Mr Pants here to see through the odds and ends, now that will be the saddest and hardest part.!Gulp.!!!
Any advice from anyone who has done this flight with a busy 21/2yr old( on their own) pls pls submit suggestions.....beg!beg !!
I expect this week to be full of very mixed emotions and they have started already....So returnees I hope to meet you all sometime in the near future.....and for those thinking about or making plans to head back to the UK from wherever I wish you lots of luck and happiness as I do those coming out to Australia and New Zealand.
Now where's the Kleenex..!!!
..but I am happy

..but I am happyFirst..a kiddie harness..are these things still available? I'd have been sunk if not for this contraption that kept a very, very active 3 year-old tied to me while waiting at the airport, and between flights.
Over the next few days gather together some small, inexpensive toys...when kids start 'acting up' on the plane, surprise them with a few toys at a time they'll be so surprised they'll be little angels..for awhile.
Take some baby aspirin...it usually acts as a mild sedative, makes them sleepy. Take their favourite 'blankie' or comfort toy.
Make friends with the passengers around you...maybe some nice, sympathetic ladies will offer to take the kid off your hands for half an hour,
and give you a much-needed break.
Oh, and don't depend on the airlines to supply you with diapers..or baby food..take your own. Bon Voyage.

Pants: Some more very useful tips for your long-haul flight with a small child:
http://www.expatsingapore.com/ubb/Fo...ML/002900.html
Hope this helps!
PS. I also read somewhere recently about one parent who took a large bag of mints and sweets on board a long-haul flight when she was travelling with a little one. Just before take-off, she spoke with her fellow passengers in the rows adjacent to her by offering them some candy and apologising in advance if her child might become disruptive during the long flight but she would do her best to try to pacify the little one. Apparently it was a real ice-breaker and some of them even entertained the toddler during the flight!
If you are flying with an Asian airline you may well find that the (female) cabin crew will take your little one and play with her at the back of the plane if it's a quiet flight... the Asian flight attendants often find small children endearing and it's not unknown for them to entertain young children to give the parent(s) a break.

Washing.... It is self reproducing at a faster rate than the Uk washing machine can clean it. I have found a quick wash cycle that is better but not as effective on grass stains... LOL Actually I have almost caught up. The kids being at school wearing uniforms helps a great deal...
Enjoy your lunch.

Good luck with the flight & congratulations on your imminent return to Blighty. Have a pie and a pint and climb a mountain in the Lake District for me, there's a girl.

It must feel great to say 'your going home' Just think who and what will be waiting for you, that will see you through the flight. We did a nine hour flight and took personal player with us and had some songs and stories cds for our little one it worked a treat.
Anyway good luck and best wishes and most of all be happy.
