Default EU PETs scheme - need to get 2 cats airborne.

Hi Guys

I've been on the DEFRA website for ages, but can't quite get the definitive...

We're shipping a couple of cats back to the UK, after a relatively short stay in Canada. The cats were issued with the PETs passports in Jan 2006 and were chipped and vaccinated against rabies in the UK. 6 months have therefore passed since their successful UK rabies blood tests and they're not due a rabies booster until 2009.

Are these pussies all good to go back to the UK with just the tick treatment, or have we got to get them re-vaccinated\tested and have them stay in Canada for 6 months?

Thanks.
LB.

we have two 12yr old pussies for our sins

ours came over from the UK 5 yrs ago and we have had to give them a rabies shot every year to keep it up to date.

maybe email DEFRA to be on the safe side, it would be awful to turn up across the pond then have to quarantine them.

good luck and pls post the reply.

From my understanding once 6 months has passed from their successful vaccination there needs to be a third party vet certificate issued. This is then valid for 4 months only - I am not sure on the exact process after this, perhaps check with your vet or the canadian food inspection gency website.

Well, here's the DEFRA email reply (they just need their tick\tw treatment):

************************************************** *****
Good Afternoon

Once pets have been prepared for the pet travel scheme in following order :
Microchipped
Rabies Vaccination
Rabies Blood Test - This is to measure the level of anti-bodies against rabies. The blood sample must be sent to an EU Recognised Blood Testing Laboratory
Six months have passed from the date the blood was taken

Then the above never needs to be done again as long as the pet has always been kept up to date with the rabies vaccinations and does not go to a non pets qualifying country.

As they have a pet passport this is all the need to enter the UK.

When they are ready to travel they need to have:
Ticks and Tapeworm Treatment 24 - 48 hours before the check in time back to the UK
Enter the UK on one of the approved routes and transport companies. Please see the link below for the list of approved routes and transport companies:
