I guess this as close you will come to both humour and also saying you were wrong.

So Jad, just to try to steer this toward something interesting, what are your plans? I've missed something. Are you doing Christmas in Merrie England en route to Canada, or is that two separate trips?
It's interesting that so many of our thoughts about Christmas are seen as Victorian but go way back. Candles and Yule logs, holly and ivy, mistletoe and kissing beneath it. BTW, the old tradition was that if we brought greenery into the house before Christmas Eve it'd bring bad luck! The tree came over with the Germans who married the Georges, but Victoria made it popular when a picture was published in the Illustrated News.
Here's the pic.
Happy Christmas in advance, and with shorter notice, Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans here.

The 6 week trip to UK is just a merry old holiday to get away from a hot christmas
which is just not our thing. We have an application in to emigrate to Canada, Business Visa, that they infom us will take 3 years, so ho hum its life in OZ for now. We actually nearly moved there last year, but a last minute disater, BIL went missing for 10 days then was found dead. We delayed a job offer while that was going on then it fell over in recession. Before anyone starts Canada is not some rose tinted destination free from the woes of the world
, between us weve spent a great deal of time there and have family and friends living there. The Dickensian reference is to the trolls, a few got in here and bagged anyone who missed Christmas, they were told they were dreaming of knee deep snow and people on horses in cloaks
Basically myself I just fancy a break from severe heat and a few trips to Next and Asda, plus we are hosting a family get together in a large country holiday home we have rented

I am really glad to hear you haven't been stabbed or visciously beaten by some chavs yet. You're doing really well because the survival rate in the UK is usually no more than a week. Either you have been attacked as described by then or you run screaming from the appallingly awful weather and high prices.

, you know the one where they wear reindeer sweaters and the church in the snow scene - real corny stuff.Weve had a few white Xmas, one in banff, OMG so beautiful we stayed at the chateau
Another one at mates house in vancouver, had lunch and it snowed just after, can only remember one in the UK, never settled but a few flurries fell, it was my grandads last Xmas so always remember it. We also had snow in cornwall one year near Xmas, might have been boxing day? but it wasnt the actual day, but lots of snow for about a few hours.
