Current Uk job situation?

Current Uk job situation?
Hi guys.
Anyone else having problems finding work in the Uk prior to or on their return??
We are - and I'm a nurse and hubbie works in insurance. He's been told by recruitment agents that Uk employers are being very slow and cautious in the light of what's going on just now. He had a phone interview about 4 weeks ago and although the recruiter says the company IS interested in him, they are taking their time in moving on to the next step.
So frustrating as we are booked to leave here in 12 weeks time and don't know if we have jobs to go back to. I also don't know where else we'd have to start looking if the Yorkshire workscene doesn't improve!
Anyone else having the same problems?

Not sure about other professions, but my husband is a nurse.
We decided to test the water regarding him finding work. If you apply from overseas, you are very unlikely to get much of a response. He either had no
reply, or was told you have to be in the UK.
When i was back there recently and staying with my daughter, we decided to see what the respnse would be if he put down on the application he was living at my daughtes address. He got offered 3 interviews within 2 weeks!!
I am pretty certain you will find work, evern if it means doing agency stuff till you find a permanent post.

I speak to my family every week in UK and they tell me it is mainly the buliding trade that is suffering.
It is a worrying time to be going back, as we don't really know the extent of things over there, just hear say.
We are self-employed so that is a challenge on it's own.
Where in Yorkshire are you going back to Pearly???
We are heading back there too.

Cheers Flea,
It's just very frustrating as I've retrained in Sexual Health, understood there to be a huge shortage of those nurses and now have had two flat "No's" in past 2 days from Yorkshire NHS and Primary Care Trusts. As it's a niche nursing area I know who to contact for work, and as the two biggies have said no, I'm now getting very stuck for options.

We've thought all along we'd be returning to York to live as we like it there. We just didn't forsee the problems finding work around there. Everyone assumes coz your a nurse that you'll get work anywhere with no problem, but when you specialise it's much harder.
I honestly don't know what to do now. Starting looking elsewhere is like a WHOLE new ballgame - and with so little time until our return - even worse! I wouldn't know where to start looking.
Didn't forsee this happening at all.

Nu-shooz we are HOPING to move back to York, but as jobs don't seem to be around for us in either York or Leeds I am now slowly having to think about where else we could look. Don't know where to start - this just wasn't in the plan. Where are you moving to???

We are def heading back to Leeds or surrounding areas. Jan 09 we will be flying out. Once we are both sorted out in UK we should meet!
I do think once you are actually living in UK, you will find it alot easier to get jobs. It is always a difficult situation to try and sort a job out whilst living on the other side of the world.
My avatar reflects the way i am feeling right now. I don't need to spell it out for you, you know what i mean

One thing in his favour is that although he specialises in forensics he can also switch to acute and mainstream psychiatry/ mental health so he has several options.
I deally we want to be near my daugther with the disabled grandaughter, but we realise that if work comkes up elsewhere we will have to take it ntil we can get something nearer.
Did you do general nursing before? Maybe you could go back to that until a position in sexual health comes up?

Yes, i can totally relate to your frustration. I do still worry about him finding work when we finally do get back there.

I am slowly realising I may have to do just that.Trouble is my head is totally up my ar*e now with all the confusion and it's a nightmare considering having to do that as well as still apply to sexual health places AND still have the "what if we have to move somewhere else" thing on the go also. What a mess,eh??!!

But my head is in turmoil for so many other reasons relating to our return, that him finding a job is further down the list (even though still a worry) I cant sleep at night because of it all, and if truth be known, if things dont start falling into place for us soon, i might just lose the plot and end up on getting OH to medicate me...pmsl

Why would I be smirking at the thought of 2 million people out of work by Christmas?
Did you even read the subject title of this thread? what were you expecting to read? Harry Enfield "loadsa money" characters telling everyone how great the UK is at the moment?
