Been here a week now - and loving every minute of it.

Thanks Ingurland, it is really touching to have someone else enquire about how you are getting on.

Things are still going well.

However, I have not found a job yet, which is frustrating.

However, I am happy and all is well. The locals are friendly, and the weather is wonderful. I am doing my best to try and meet as many folk as possible and try to put down roots. I have signed up for a local soccer league, both as a player and coach.

For the sake of others that are just moving, I found these to be really big landmarks that helped me...

ssn arrives
first US bank card
first interview (the experience is helpful)
cell phone
keys to your new apartment!
buying a new bed
working out where you can and cant walk to from your new place

I hope that helps someone

right now my time is spent divided as follows

searching the online job boards for work
researching the idea of working from home
playing and coaching soccer
scouring craigslist for cheap furniture
shaking my head in disbelief at all the political ads on tv

Carrboro's a pretty cool place. Very small town feel. It's not for everyone.

You do have a car, don't you?... and a license? You'd be better off with a vehicle because that won't restrict you so much about possible places to work.

Actually I dont at the moment. As I never had a UK driving license it is not so easy to start driving here.

I am very aware that I'll need to start driving asap... and I am looking into lessons and a car at the moment.

Maybe we could arrange a meetup for all the Triangle [and triad if interested] expats?

I never drove in the UK either. I took a dozen driving lessons here, did a lot of practice (you will need to have a licensed driver in the vehicle too) then took the test. It was dead easy. The practical part of the test was a joke. Seven minutes on the road...

Feel free to arrange one here, in this forum.

Yeah. I reckon so. I have been hanging around in shorts for most of my time in Carolina but have just invested in a duvet jacket as I have become a bit nesh after so long in the south.
