Funny thing about that. I've never labelled an entire nation (British or otherwise) as 'retards' or indeed 'thick'. You're just all class. England deserves you.

And she will be welcomed home with pleasure to a land with rich history, where humility, manners and politeness still exist, a nation who don't take themselves too seriously, have a great sense of fairness, tradition and humour.

In response to the question. No ,not thick, just poorly educated(generally) -Ok An aussie invented the black box recorder. The Hutch chappie I reckon was at least partly schooled in the uk.
It's just a wee bit backward sometimes.
They actually do some things better than we do and I don't just mean work hard or have better chip shops.

That is pretty funny, but I don't think impracticalities and bureaucratic bungles are any worse here in Aus than in the UK.
I guess Flea is home by now so I am wishing her a happy landing.

Of course i really do know it happens everywhere, but those who really do know me and have half a brain, know i do all this stuff to add spice and an opposing extremist faction to the forum. We have loads of moderates, quite a few pro happy clapping rose tinted Aussiephiles and a handful of us Aussie "haters" Thats what makes a forum what it is isnt it???
Some on here take it far too seriously and dont see the funny side unless of course, its them trying to be "funny"
Not meaning you IG... i know you "get it"

I find myself thinking this on a regular basis these days - I seem to work with a really good cross section of people now, ranging from a couple of serious knuckle-draggers, to some very intelligent, perceptive and considerate people, all Aussies, though there is a mixture of Pom and Italian heritage in there too. I guess that same as back home there are extremes of both types, and it really does depend who you mix with - and who you are forced to mix with.

Now can I send karma?!
Have to admit, my perception is that there are other teams in the company that have a different culture which I am pretty sure mirror some of the complaints found on BE the last few years. It is just one of those things.
My job can be a tad pedestrian occasionally but you can always rely on the people to be pleasant and professional - which I have come to realise this last 12 years counts for a lot. That is partly because everyone on the team is a specialist and is well paid and politics can be left safely behind. Also there are mgtm structures designed to shield you from much of the worst. It is definitely not a shop floor mentality. I have also spoke to young grads who complain about the way they are treated in their jobs and their biggest grudge is that they are not really doing a grad job. A minority are on expense accounts, have a client base, and are the 21st yuppie!!! and others are working on backoffice fulfillment teams working through a spreadsheet - and I have been there briefly my self. There are 2 worlds out there...
I wasn't going to share this one - but a few weekends ago I socially met a bloke that would fall into one of Flea's 'Australian' men - at a BBQ - no less. He was clever and a nice enough bloke - you couldn't fault that, but again, after an evening spent with him, I suspect he is one of the people that people on this forum will not miss. What shocked me, was that this is the first such bloke in 5 years I have met. It is clear to me that many expats live with people like this all the time - and it would piss me off too - eventually. In the same way his English equivalent would piss me off.
