Re: Anyone from Wales
Originally from a little village called Pontyates in Carmarthenshire, then moved to Newport, Gwent from High School age. Left Newport in 1975 to join the RAF (PM's) and never been back to Wales to live. Lots of family there and some Welsh speakers too including my dad.
Yes, it's been cold here and we've just had at least 2 feet of snow here with temps plummeting tonight to below minus 20F.

I'm from Colwyn Bay - ended up working in a fair few places along the coast: Bangor, Bethesda, Llanfairfechan, Colwyn Bay itself, Abergele, St Asaph and Mold. Moved down to Carmarthen for a couple of years after that before moving on to London.

Re: Anyone from Wales
I was in the Nursing side of the RAF, (Princess Mary's RAF Nursing Service) and did my training at RAF (H) Ely, Cambridgeshire. I did my service in RAF hospitals and didn't get to see any flying bases!
There are quite a few valleys leading out of Newport and Brynmawr is in one of them. There's a Bryn Mawr here in Chicago but it isn't anything like the Welsh Brynmawr and they say it differently too which drives me crazy!

I'm from the South Wales Valleys, though spent the last 13 years exiled in SW England before moving here (to nowhere near Texas)

No snide remarks about Splott ... I have a big smile on face. It has been a very long time since I heard or read either "Splott" or "Grangetown". I am from Fairwater.
