We have been in Perth for nearly 9 years now, we have given it a go and had some good times but we have always missed home and we are more homesick now than when we first came!!! we went back home this March/April 07 and had a really good look at everything and we just knew we had to go home for good as soon as we could. We like a lot of things here but we love more things at home and we do miss certain things at home so much.
How long have you been here? have you always been in Rockingham? we use to go down quite a lot on the Esplande and pay a (an expensive one) to the "English Sweetie Shop" I just miss my Minstrels and Sports Mixtures!!!! (and the rest).
Nice talking to you Shaza

We have certain problems here as well but all in all it has been a good experience but we all now want to move on.....our sons love being back home especially our older son....
Any advice...try Aus... it may be the best thing you have done but think carefully about things....if you are close to your parents/family and they help with children etc if you have any then you will not have that here.....some people here have had no visitor's from family as ie, it is expensive or the flights are too long especially on the older people...and really do you homework on the States, if we had our choice and we still decided to come to Aus...we think the Eastern States offere a lot more....they are near to each other....plenty to see and do.....everyone has different opinions...and these are just ours....do you homework on the cost of housing and area's....there are area's I would not live in even here...and housing has become very expensive...maybe not in pounds but in $ we are on par with parts of Sydney.....
Anyway good luck with everything and a least you are reading this site which is good as some people would just bury their heads in the sand and think life is just "golden" here.....and it is for some but not for others.....
Best wishes and Good luck with everything

Thanks Jackie. I hope everything works out for you.
I must admit, although I think Perth is lovely, I've had a few reservations myself about there being enough to do and see.
We definitely want the beach/parks lifestyle and can't wait to explore the region, but having lived in Cardiff, Bristol and now Manchester I did find that Perth was a lot quieter in comparison. But I'm trying to look on this as a good thing - perhaps it ( and the weather ) will mean we do more outdoors things and get more active and healthy.
We don't have many family ties here in the UK so it should be easier for us in that respect.
Just got to give it a good go.
Good luck to you.

Been in Perth nearly 9 years....Did not know anyone out here and never been befoe....so we started with a "clean slate" so to speak. we find (and this is only our opinion) that by the time we had been here for 4 years we had mostly done everything you can do in Perth/W.A we travelled down to Margaret River/Bunbury/Buss/Mandurah/Rockingham so many times..just to see different towns etc....then we went up north and finally inland to York etc....we have not been to Kal. though. Mostly they are fine for a couple of times but they are VERY small places....mostly just one small street....we thought they had resorts (the type in the Med./Asia/Africa etc but they are not...mostly if you like beaches that are very natural with sand dunes etc then you will love it here...there are small catchment area's like Cottesloe and Hillary's have a few cafe's and resturants on the front and are lovely but these places we find that after 9 years just stay the same. We have had a good time here in Perth but we miss family (we have a lot stay) and our close friends....we miss different towns, old buildings....countryside....things that we did not really take in to account...Perth is very isolated and is expensive to travel out of the state/country....we have been lucky and visited Asia and other Australian States...but it has cost us an arm and a leg....as we (my husband and I) are in our mid 40's and our children are older (mid teenagers) we would like to see Paris/New York and lot's of other places....before we get to old to travel...plus our nepthew and neices are growing up and having families that we have missed out on.....Christmas to us in the Sun (for various reasons) has lost its charm....
We have certain problems here as well but all in all it has been a good experience but we all now want to move on.....our sons love being back home especially our older son....

I always had help from friends and family but cannot work here as I am looking for a job with school hours which restricts my choices greatly as I cannot find any childcare. I am on a waiting list for out of hours care but they have told me there probably won't be a place until February and I put my name down in August

A couple of weeks ago my husband was very ill with gastro entiristus (sp?). I had a problem with my ankle and could barely walk (which I may now have to have an op on) let alone drive. My daughter had to miss a day off school as we live 10 mins drive away and I had nobody to ask to take her or bring her home. It really hit me that day how very alone we are here in the case of illness. Yes I do have lots of friends but none of them live close by and they have their own kids to look after. In the UK my daughter could have walked to school and I would have had lots of NEARBY friends and family I could ring to help me out.
Of course this isn't the reason we are thinking of returning home. There are a thousand other reasons.
I would say to anybody thinking of moving to Oz or anywhere else for that matter ' go for it'. I know we would have regretted not coming here even though things aren't working out for us as we had hoped.

I totally agree with this Jackie. Defintely something to consider. I have met alot of people who had their parents and friends helping out with childcare in the UK and then finding out there is not that sort of help here. Childcare is expensive in Perth and sadly lacking.

I have just been made redudant so I am looking for work I have always worked part-time (I started working when our sons were older...I think they were in Yrs 5 and Yr 7) when I worked 3 days a week.....9 -2.30pm so it was ideal....I did try working when they were younger but the cost of childcare was not worth me going out of the door, especially in the hols...plus my youngest son was bullied and they kept coming home with certain "things" they had not had before......
It is not a bad place and we have not regretted coming (well most days I don't and now and again I wish I had never heard of the place!!) out it is a experience..but we have had enough now....my sons want to go home..my husband is not keen on his new Job....but we think it is not worth feeling like we do....
This makes us sound like wet blankets but honestly we are fun loving people, we travel we like to go out...we love having a laugh....BUT!!! and there is a
BUT we want to do that back home now..just not here....
Hope you have a good day and it's a shame we all don't live near each other because we all know how it feels and you would help each other out!!!!
Take care
Jackie in a rainy and damp Perth...just like my mood today!!!!but who knows tomorrow!!

I am having a good day today. I do try not to let things get on top of me. It's actually lovely and sunny and windy - just how I love it and I've been for a walk (well a hobble
) on the beach. Had 2 texts to meet up with some friends and taken the plunge and signed up for a Psychic and Self Development Course. One of my closest friends left Perth to go home last Monday - in fact I took her to the airport and the relief on her face spoke volumes. In the 6 months I knew her I watched the poor girl sink further and further into a black hole of depression and I seriously fear for her in the future even though she is now where she wants to be. I don't want to be like that. I have had depression but am feeling better now and making the most of where I am - easier said than done I know.
