My husband and I emigrated to UK from NZ in Aug 23. (I am British, Hubby has partner visa). We want to purchase an annual travel insurance policy but all the ones I have looked at have a stipulation that you must have been resident in the UK for at least 6 months. Has anyone found a company that doesn't have this in their fine print 🤞

I think you may be lucky to find one. You may have to be prepared to buy one-off travel insurance as required until you make that 6 month mark.

I just had a look at the policy documents of Post Office annual multi-trip travel insurance, which says:
Residential eligibility
To be eligible to purchase this policy your home address must be in the UK and you must be registered with a General Practitioner in the UK.

Nothing about needing to be resident for 6 months. I haven't used Post Office so can't recommend them one way or another but hope that helps a bit.

Thank you so much. I had a quick skim read of the policy and it looks like we qualify. £108 annually for the two of us...so not too bad. I will check with them just to make sure though 😀

Be very careful with the Post Office, they are just are a front who, in my experience, take incompetence to a whole new level - find out whose products they are fronting, ie selling you, and read their small print before proceeding,

That is incredibly cheap .......has it got low limits on the benefits i.e medical insurance covers only 10k of costs and things like that?

This one has a Medical cover of £5,000,000 with an excess of £125, personal belongings of £1500, along with a variety of others, so doesn't seem too bad

It's cheap for the US, but not for the UK, that's pretty standard for a good annual travel policy for healthy adults. I used to pay around £200 a year for 4 of us, and that had a higher medical cover (£10m I think), plus winter sports cover, and higher baggage cover too to include things like laptops.

Bad news. I called the post office and they confirmed "British resident" means resident in the UK for at least 6 months. Tried arguing the point that no where in their policy docs does it actually state that but they were adamant. Not sure how it would stand up legally though. So looks like I am back to square one 😞

Yup - Christmasoompa is spot on.
My UK travel insurance was £300 and my friend from Virginia was initially $3,000 but managed to find another company for $2,000.
My cover was better than his.

I think they will offer you cover... because they specialise in slightly 'odd' things like this....but maybe not an annual policy??
