I am from Leyland/Preston originally, and have been living in the US for the past 6 years. We are moving to Manchester Centre in the summer... small world.

Just sticking my nose in here really, because I'm no help to the OP.

It's just that what you wrote above has so many parallels with my own experiences. I've been in the UK for 3 months (husband is a Brit, I'm an Aussie). Like you, everyone asks us WHY we left Australia and I'm also thinking of punching the next one who asks, I also love the variety in supermarkets (especially the fresh seafood) - but in the case of my accent, no one understands it
