Will you be applying for citizenship before you leave or have you no intention of ever returning ??
If I could get citizenship now i would go home straight away, but its another 4.5 years for me so i'll be hanging around for a bit longer.

It would also be a great way to make sure that I have absolutely no regrets about moving back home - not that i think i would but if things were going slow on the job front back there it would be easy to fall into the "grass is always grenner" way of thinking again. If I know that i could come back here if i wanted then those potential regrets just couldn't bug me as much.

Yes, I got my citizenship back in December. I feel somewhat like Britvic that I'd never want to live here again, but with my OH being American it makes sense to have the citizenship in case things don't work out for whatever reason in the UK (like you said, Davy). Also, I never thought I'd want to move back to the UK either, so feelings can change within just a few years! It'll also be nicer for all of us being able to go through the same line at the airport when visiting wife's family.

Hope the move works out well for you.
By the way, daft question - is the only way to qualify for citizenship through 5 year residency or are there any shortcuts ??

Have been looking at areas to move to as well - at the moment thinking about Hereford, Shropshire, maybe North Derbyshire. I've realised how totally attached to the UK I am.

Blank stares. I'd screwed up on two points: cultural igbnorance and (probably) perceived sexism or "sexiness in the workplace". Then I tried to explain the "joke" - bad move ......

I am going to get some property papers sent over for us - once I have finished I am more than happy to mail to you. You get to see so much more than the internet listings give you - I think that quite often it is only the stuff that has been hanging around that ends up on these sites. The good stuff is probably snapped up. Will be the best travelled Poole/Bournemouth Advertisers in history!

Amanda thats adorable for you offer to post your papers to me, absolutely yes please ! Just let me know when you've had enough of them and I'll give you my address ! Thank you xxxx

A colleague has just asked me to TYPE quieter! This is somebody who swears out loud whenever she feels like it. I so can't wait to get out of this friggin place right now. Sorry, this has nothing to do with anything but I needed to vent and didn't think it was worth starting a thread for!
