After a few months in a Brazilian favela you might change your mind about Jeddah !
Done Brazil, ditto Bolivia, both great places to live. I wouldn't spend much time in a Rio favela as a gringo unless I was up to no good on a good night out, hence pissed, bulletproof(...) and oblivious, or with locals (safer option), but nor would I pitch my tent in a Bangla work camp outside Dubai with a big Pakistan flag painted on the side of it. It's about not being a target. Dodgiest place for me from experience: San Salvador.
