Yeah you're right. Flex is too ugly.
I'm going to go and see the Pajero.

50-80K for a 4x4.....
Fortuner..... 2.7l is underpowered. 4.0L feels to fast for the chassis / brakes. Not a bad car overall though and even the 2.7 is OK offroad.
FJ - Meh. As loads have said they're marmite. I wouldn't.
Prado - awful.
Pajaro - most sensible choice if a tad dull.
Jeep - Biased view from me (own a tricked out TJ). Your budget would get you a decent example. Watch out for the owner groups tho as they seem to think their cars don't depreciate and that they are going to get every dirham back for the hideous chrome add on's.
Hummer - I wouldn't
Other Yank stuff - meh!
Patrol - old one could be fun.
Landcruiser - old one could be fun.
Xterra - not a bad call. Decent offroad and IMO better than a Prado on road.
Lower level Mitsys / Nissans / Yotas - whats the point?
I so like the idea of a old school barge though. You can get some decent older prestige cars for bugger all.
As for the selection in AD. Don't limit yourself. Look at Dubai too. Exporting cars from Emirate to Emirate is common practice and a piece of piss.
You should try the car souk and see whats the most random thing you can find.

I don't like the Flex though, designed by a lego employee?

The wealthy Saudi's love flashing the cash and showing of their G Wagons.More money than sense. Out of the two, I think the Flex edges it in terms of vomit inducing looks. Apparently, it's a "very comfortable ride" as my mate once told me.

Great advice jam2smack. What do you think of the Ford Edge / Ford Explorer?
Is the Pajero Sport the same car as the Pajero? It looks very similar, but one review said they were totally different cars.

Here at the local car dealers, you can get a brand new zero mileage 2016 model, top spec, fully loaded Pajero for around 108k SR. Its from an independent dealer, but fill out the registration card and take it to the Mitsubishi dealer and hey presto, you have your three year warranty. I know a few guys who have done it that. Good value really. A base model can be had for around 85k.
My own logic is for serious off road stuff, it has to Japanese. More costlier to buy, but probably cheaper to maintain in the long run. Tends to be easier to sell too.
For road use / people hauling, American is the better bet.Cheaper to buy, but quicker to depreciate.

Re: What car would you buy?
Again, they're all much of a muchness in which is the dullest. You went from scouring the classifieds for a BMW 840 to looking at an Edge or an Explorer....
If you're looking for a good value 4x4 then plump for the Xterra or a Pajero. They will treat you right and not offer up any shocks.
Never heard of a Pajero 'Sport'. Pajero's normally come in two flavours (engine sizes) with the bigger one being better appointed (get that one). There is also the Pajero io but those are tiny little things.
If you're looking at an Edge or an Explorer you might as well buy a saloon car.... as neither are any good offroad.

Admittedly not the best on road, although the Pentastar engines are a lot lot lot lot better...... than the shite they had in the earlier JK Wranglers, in fact they're actually an excellent engine.

So kinda ignoring the fact that the Wrangler is probably the most accomplished offroad (in standard trim) in its class....

People who want to be serious off-roaders should surely have two cars?
Only problem with some of the Nissan's (as you've mentioned one), is room. I couldn't get the driver's seat to go far enough back in the old shape Pathfinder or I might have had that instead of the Explorer.

The one thing that a Pajero Sport is not, is Sporty. then again, Not is the Pajero. I rented one for a while when I first got here.
It's a totally different car to the real Pajero and is probably built on their truck platform. They look a bit better than they used to.
