Re: We have found a new home!
well now it's the time for all of those who did not buy before to finally buy and live in their own. i'd love to see the time when this law regulating rent increase gets binned for ever. everyone is talking about rents going down and so perhaps it's the time to test what happens next.

Its pretty much common knowledge that there are 1000's, if not 10's of 1000's of people waiting for the end of the school term until bidding Dubai 'Ma'asallama'. It doesnt need an Economist to see that increased supply, coupled with decreased demand, will mean rental prices dropping. What happens when the income don't pay the mortgage???

Quick question on just this topic...
How many of the people holding off until the end of the school year have actually advised their LL's that they are going? If they are giving 1-2 months notices to LL's, there should be a glut of adverts out on the market but, from what I can see there either isn't, or the villa's that they are relinquishing were all on the Palm etc, and are still over priced???

absolutely....am waiting for the so called mass exodus to happen during may/june.
I've already started browsing, you can pick up 2 beds in JLT for around 90k, you can even pick up a 2 bed in the Diamond towers for 50k! Although i've been told the Diamond towers are pretty shyte.

Our lease is up in September... quite fancy reducing the rent we're paying by 50%. Will feel sorry to leave the landlord if we have to, he's a really nice guy, but he's looking for a return he's not going to get any more. (Then again he saw reality around his investments in the Burj so we'll see)

It must depend on which tower (assuming we're talking Marina Diamond) - the flats we saw there were small and terribly laid out, with finishing worse than JBR

But there are six towers, so they might have some differences? MD 2 is the only one on the AD side of Marina Mall, the other five are all near Marina Walk.

Stayed in one for the first few weeks waiting for the shipment to arrive.. Pictures looked fantastic, but on arrival realised that the photographer must have been a ****** contortionist to make the living area look as big as the pic suggested...

Re: We have found a new home!
i wouldnt buy over here, even if the properties were practically been given away...i don't trust these arabs as far as i can throw them...if they can freeze your bank account at any given time and without any given notice, wouldn't be that difficult for them to take your property too....besides as expats we have no rights.
and yet I've seen a few guys from UK buying properties in Bulgaria, Romania ... even Albania appears on their list ... I wuldn't buy there man ...
By the way, what would they do with a property if they take it from us?

you may have a point there ... I assume you prefer when UK bank takes your house rather than an Arab one; I guess that's called patriotism

A friend of mine bought there too; I was looking to buy there as well, somewhere in the mountains ... I am just too afraid of ex-communist countries ..
... but maybe it's safer that here, you never know ... it's just a perception
