A wages question
 

Just wanting to find out what a good wage would be for a family of 4?

Would it be impertenent to ask for schooling fees to be paid partially/fully ? Ive been swatting up on a few bits and bobs but just wondered about housing costs etc, if they ask you what you want to be paid for what would you say ?? (everything lol)...

Do most companies offer much help towards relocation etc?

Im just trying to get some kind of list together so that I can evaluate what costs we need if we are lucky enough to get offered work out there.

Unless I was very unhappy in my current job and really hated the place I was staying in, I personally wouldn't move to Dubai for less than AED 75k a month.

It depends on your standard of living - you could live comfortably on 75k and also save up.... Then you also have people on half that income and also very happy...

That is a ridiculous figure! Dh75k per month equates to over 100 grand a year sterling!!!

I think you would find that there are loads of people living in Dubai (I don't know, I'm not one of them, but...) on much, much less than that, and still managing to eat and drink and get around, and still having fun!

even big directors of companies here dont get 75k a month....! way too high, especially for an substation engineer.

Yeh been trawling through the olds threads and now my head hurts:(

Just so many variations on what we should and shouldnt ask for!!!

So now on my understand if we say about 30AED a month wages, plus car allowance of roughly 4k a month and housing of about 15k a month we should be good/not struggling??

Ive been looking at it in pounds sterling but have been told AED, ooh my head hurts...

Oh I forgot schooling two kids aged 6 and 10 35,000AED a year roughly?

Ridiculous to you - not to me. And read what I wrote - I said I would personally not move for less than that. You are protected by the rent cap - go try and find a place for the OP/family of four for what you're paying in rent

Equally, I know loads of people on half that and just about manage to live comfortably now - after rent (paid upfront), school fees, transport etc etc. I know loads of people on much lesser than that and coping but far from happy.

Lets look at the costs:

Rent: AED 250k (that is what he will pay now for a 3-4 bed villa in Dubai)
Utilities and rent tax: 3500 per month (5% of rent, plus AED 2k for utilities, am too tired to calculate)
School fees: 90k (we're protected by the cap in 2009)
Transport: 4k
Groceries: 4k ??
etc etc,,,,,

no not really, a director would be much more than a project manager etc. bsak (in AD) will be around 35 each next year (but big waiting list) lease car is around 2k for a honda civic etc houses in ad if you can get them are at least 250 a year much less in dubai

you are definately not protected by the rent cap, we have been screwed the last two years now, and for other views look in todays paper to see what others have been saying about the rent cap as its not working for the majority of people, lucky for you in it is. schools fees (ours have gone up in 3 years by 46% which they are not allowed to do within the law, they had to get special permission etc) so dont know what cap you are on about for 2009, as it doesnt work everywhere !

Am speaking about schools in Dubai. There is a list of schools that applied for yet another hike for 08-09 and permission was denied. Both my kids schools were denied a hike.

r get you, lucky you they are abiding by it. Because the rules are that a school cannot increase by more than 20% every 3 years or by 5% every 2 unless they get MOE permission etc.
