show me the money
Hi All,
About to move out in the next couple of months and like i suspect for a lot of you, one of the main reasons i am moving to Qatar is to save enough money to buy a house back in blighty.
I have seen that HSBC have an international branch in Doha, but i was wondering whats the best way to send money back each month that wont get mullered by charges like if i would use western union
thanks muchly

If you have a search of this forum you'll find your question has been asked and answered several times. There is a nice lady who will help you if you ask her politely.

Re: show me the money
I looked through the qatar financial sub thread , and a couple of others that mainly dealt with forms of payment and cheques and what not , but then a wave of laziness swept over me plus the game of thrones box set.
Will do my revision

I suggest you shop around for currency transfer quotes and make sure that you get the best exchange rate from an FCA (formerly FSA) authorised foreign exchange provider - a better way to save money on international money transfers. Typically, a foreign exchange broker's rate can be up to 4% better than HSBC (or the banks/post office in general).

HSBC premier still have hidden charges that you would need to research and there are plenty of foreign exchange / international money transfer specialists that will be able to help you send money overseas (on a regular or one off basis). Each will be able to offer you a better deal than any bank could.
Whilst you state that Western Union is one provider, I would advise approaching a couple of companies that are FCA authorised so that you can find the best exchange rate or deal that suits your needs.

If you are HSBC Premier member, you can transfer money between your HSBC accounts without any transaction fees. I have done this between Hong Kong and UK. Also, if you are Premier member in one country, then your HSBC accounts in other countries can also be Premier. You can have a global view of all your accounts on their website.

Even if a bank doesn't charge an explicit fee, you are generally stung on the actual exchange rate as that's where they really make their money.
Having a Premier account doesn't mean they aren't making a load of money from you.
